Over the course of the book the narrative threads cross over and merge.

Originally suppressed in China as subversive it was first printed in Taiwan in 1992 under the title "Jiu Guo". Mo Yan meaning "Don't speak" is a Chinese novelist and short story writer. In 2012 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

A near fine copy.

§ OCLC suggests only 1 holding this edition; COPAC records 8 holdings in the UK this edition.

Arcade Publishing unknown
191931729Chicago: Acme Packing Company 1919. Paperback. 8vo. Stiff pictorial wrappers. 14pp. Very good. Outer wrappers slightly edgeworn and a tad soiled but overall a tight nice issue of this trade industry publication "Published Monthly in the Interest of the Wholesale Grocer." Accompanied by an Autograph Letter Signed from Forrest 1p 8½" X 11" Los Angeles CA 1925 May 10. Addressed to Sunkist Garment Factories. Good plus. Lightly age toned and slightly edgeworn. Interesting to note that this experienced trade industry editor who had also edited "Woman's World" "Household Guest" "Homefolks" and "Everyday Life" was by 1925 looking for work. He writes here: "As an applicant for the position you advertise in today's Times I am able to offer you a broad experience in handling canvassers and in sales through other channels. I formerly held the position of sales promotion manager for H.W. Gossard Co. Chicago and managed the Protexwel Mfg. Corp. for them selling waterproof wear for women & children thro agents etc. I have definite qualifications as a general office executive in connection with my sales & advertising ability. Have been paid up to $100.00 weekly for my services but we should be able to agree on remuneration. Trust you will interview me." Boldly and attractively penned in black ink. Interesting pair. 200737914New York: HarperCollins Publishers 2007. Hardcover. 4to. Red glazed paper over boards with wraparound price-clipped band. ix 292pp. Extensive color illustrations decorative endpapers. Fine. A superb and pristine first edition of this sumptuous study heavily illustrated with White House menus and culinary-related presidential memorabilia -- this copy bearing a huge bold signature and inscription from the author in blue fineline on the half-title page: "December 2 2007 / For Donna -- / With admiration to one / of my new HEROES -- / I hope you enjoy / The President's Table / Barry H. Landau / The Franklin D. Roosevelt / Library." "Donna" was presumably a staffer or benefactor to this presidential library. Landau self-styled "presidential historian" will best be remembered as a thief of presidential documents for in 2012 he was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for having stolen thousands of presidential documents from an array of presidential libraries and universities -- including notably the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library! HarperCollins Publishers hardcover
