Near fine with crease to lower right corner and light edgewear. An original program to Salvador Dalí's first solo New York exhibition held at the Julien Levy Gallery from November 21 to December 8 1933. The announcement includes a list of the 26 paintings on exhibit and includes two illustrations; one of those being Dali's iconic painting The Persistence of Memory which debuted only the year before at Levy's Surrealist Exposition alongside other notable artist such as Max Ernst and Marcel Duchamp. Dali would embrace New York over the next decade staging a series of shows and attracting enormous attention with his works and outrageous persona cementing his place as one of the world's most influential artist of the 20th Century. The Other Is Slightly Less Than 1 3/16" Thick The Frontispiece Faces Forward Recto The Paper Is Clearly Lighter And There Is A Touch Of Smudging To The Page Number "Ii". Given The Prominence Given To The Statement On The Copyright Page Showing Compliance With Wartime Printing Requirements Which The First Issue Clearly Does Not Meet I Would Assume The Thicker Book Was Printed First And The Thinner Soon After. Both Are Very Nice Completely Clean And Evenly-Colored Examples Each With Neat And Small Owners' Names. However The Thicker Volume Has The Bottom Corner Of P 411/412 Torn Away Without Any Wrinkling Or Other Damage But Much Loss Of Text Which May Be A Printing Error But May Just Have Been Torn Away Inexplicably As The Pages Appear Crisp And Unread. <br/> <br/> The Dial Press hardcover

Hidden Faces was originally written in French in 1943 two years after Dali had published his autobiography to great success. Chevalier a professor at Berkeley University spent several weeks with Dalà translating directly into English as Dalà wrote. The novel was completed in two weeks on the estate of the Marquis de Cuevas in Franconia a mansion in the mountains of New Hampshire next to the Canadian border.
