196839447Paris: Draeger 1968. Salvador Dalí. First edition. A PRESENTATION COPY FOR DR. ROUCAUTE Dalí's personal physician with a SIGNED AND DEDICATED INDIA INK DRAWING BY DALI ON A PRELIMINARY BLANK. Most of Dalí's presentation drawings were done on the spur of the moment in ballpoint or felt-tip pen and are rather simple compositions. This one however is in India ink with Dalí's characteristic carefully-planned spatter: it was obviously prepared ahead of time for presentation to a close friend the doctor. The drawing measures 27.5 x 30 cm and features several typical elements of Dalí's iconography: a knight on horseback an angel a dedicatory phrase a signature with a crown and a date. They are arranged in an absolutely wonderful apparent chaos--making it impossible to know what to look at first or what to focus on--and yet there is perfect harmony. Large 4to. Publisher's cloth with dustjacket. An excellent copy of the book WITH THE INDIA INK DRAWING IN PERFECT CONDITION.

Draeger hardcover

After being threatened with a prison sentence for distributing leaflets he fled to Paris where he completed his studies and began to move in the circle of the Surrealists. Together with Dalí he appeared as an actor in Luis Buñuel's film "Un perro andaluz" in which he played a clergyman sitting at the piano alongside his eccentric countryman. He also had a role in "La edad de oro". After his return he joined the Catalan Communist Party. During the Civil War he served as a propaganda officer for the Generalitat de Catalunya.

As of March 2025 KVK and OCLC do not list any copy worldwide. unknown

Boldly signed and dated by Dali in thick felt tip purple marker on the verso of the front cover and the front free endpaper with his enormous signature and a large drawing of a flower “Dali 1975.†In near fine condition with creasing and rubbing. Text by Max Gérard. Introduction by Dr. Pierre Roumeguère. The infamous Surrealist in full colour and in his own words Picasso called Dali "an outboard motor that's always running." Dali thought himself a genius with a right to indulge in whatever lunacy popped into his head. Painter sculptor writer and film maker Salvador Dali 1904-1989 was one of the century's greatest exhibitionists and eccentrics -- and was rewarded with fierce controversy wherever he went. He was one of the first to apply the insights of Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis to the art of painting. He brought extraordinary sensitivity imagination and concern for precision to bear upon submerged levels of consciousness. Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers unknown
