A large manuscript sketchleaf of eleven measures written by the admired conductor and son of the violinist Jan Kubelik who was also an accomplished composer. <br><br><br />A substantial sketchleaf of an unidentified instrumental work evidenly from a working manuscript the music is written in pencil on two systems of five staves. The voices are incomplete and there is evidence of annotations and corrections throughout. On the verso he has composed two systems of two staves with further brief incomplete sketches beneath which Kubelik has signed in bold black ink. One large horizontal crease and some creasing and wear around the edges left edge rough; otherwise very good condition. 24.2 x 31.7 cm. unknown books

Original color pictorial wrappers. First American Appearance of this historical romance complete in these seven consecutive issues of The American Magazine where the novel is illustrated by F.R. Gruger -- some full-page some even double-page. It was in 1930 that the tale was also published in book form -- by Houghton Mifflin in the US and by Hutchinson as THE MINION in the UK. Condition is remarkably very good-plus minor edge-wear especially at the ends of the spines. The lower corner of all seven front covers bears the original mailing label -- which amazingly went to six different people! -- two in Illinois plus one each in Maine Massachusetts North Dakota and Wisconsin. This was published as an element in an interesting set of cards with a series title "Recuerdo de España" distributed for the promotion and defense of the Republic published under the direction of the Fine Arts trade union the alliance charged with some of the most important propaganda efforts during the war. The cards bear illustrations in various media and internally present both in type and in facsimile of manuscript statements in support of the cause both prose and poetry.
