Like the Mishnah Mishnat Hasidim is arranged in "Sedarim" which are divided into "massechtot" and subdivided into "perakim." With an introduction entitled: Olam Katan. Includes index. Title-page has ornamental border.
Raphael Immanuel ben Abraham Hai Ricchi 1688-1743 was an "Italian rabbi cabalist and poet. After having studied Talmud under Nathan Pinkerle rabbi of Alessandria della Paglia Ricchi became tutor in the houses of several wealthy Jews. He was thus successively employed at Göritz Fiorenzuola Finale in Modena and Venice; in the last-named place he opened a school. He then went to Triest where he was ordained rabbi in 1717 by Hillel Ashkenazi rabbi of Canea after which he was invited to the rabbinate of Görz.
Owing to his great love for cabalistic studies and to his ascetic tendencies Ricchi resolved to settle in Palestine. He arrived at Safed in 1718 and during his stay there of two years he occupied himself with the study of the works of Isaac Luria and Hayyim Vital. He was also reordained rabbi by Hayim Abulafia. In 1720 an epidemic broke out in Palestine and Ricchi was compelled to return to Europe.
On the voyage he and all his fellow passengers were captured by pirates and brought to Tripolitza whence through the efforts of Abraham Halfon Ricchi and his family were allowed to return to Italy. He then occupied the rabbinate of Florence till 1723 in which year he removed to Leghorn where for twelve years he engaged in business as a merchant. He spent twenty months in travel visiting Smyrna Salonica Constantinople Amsterdam and London and in 1735 set out for Palestine spending two years at Aleppo and three at Jerusalem. In 1741 he returned to Leghorn and in 1743 while traveling in Italy for the purpose of selling his works he was killed by robbers who buried his body by the shore of the Reno. Six days later some Modena Jews discovered the remains and brought them to Cento for burial.
Ricchi's most important work is the above-cited 'Mishnat Hasidim' a cabalistic work begun in 1726 at Leghorn.
Like the Mishnah it is arranged in orders 'sedarim' which are divided into treatises 'massektot' and subdivided into chapters 'peraim' the names of the six Mishnah orders being taken in a cabalistic sense. But the chief divisions of the work are three termed 'mafteot' besides the introduction entitled ''Olam Kaon' = 'microcosmos' in which Ricchi endeavors to popularize the Cabala.
The first main division is the 'Maftea ha-'Olamot' in which the worlds are treated. It contains: 1 the order of Zera'im treating of the cabalistic cosmology and of metaphysics and divided into seven massektot and eighteen chapters; 2 the order Kodashim treating of the realm of emanation 'olam ha-azilut' which is styled 'the holy of holies' and containing twenty massektot and seventy-eight chapters; 3 the order ohorot treating of the three other realms namely those of creative ideas 'beri'ah' creative formations 'yezirah' and creative matter 'asiyah' and divided into nine massektot and twenty-seven chapters; and 4 the order Nezikin treating of the demons and 'kelifot' and divided into six massektot and seventeen chapters.
The second main division entitled 'Maftea ha-Neshamot' contains the order Nashim treating of souls in twelve massektot and forty-eight chapters. The third main division entitled 'Mafteah ha-Kawwanot' contains the order Mo'ed divided into fifty-eight massektot and 371 chapters and treating of the Kawwanah. It will be seen that the number of massektot in this work is 112 corresponding to the numerical value of the sacred name ; and the number of chapters 547 equal to the numerical value of Ricchi's name plus twelve the number of its letters.
The sources for this work besides the Zohar are mostly Isaac Luria's and Hayyim Vital's writings of which the 'Sefer ha-Gilgulim' 'Kanfe Yonah' and 'Shulhan 'Aruk' may be particularly mentioned. Ricchi drew also from other cabalists" M. Seligsohn in JE 1905.
NYU houses their copy in the Mitchell M. Kaplan Collection of Rare Judaica and Hebraica. Aviva Ben-Ur's Ladino catalog list #14. First and only edition of detailed account of the Lotus case an international legal case involving France and Turkey in front of the Permanent Court of International Justice compiled by Spanish judge Altavira y Crevea and translated by Turkish Distinguished Professor of International Law Menemenlizâde Edhem 1878-1965. The case is known for establishing the so-called "Lotus principle" in international law says that sovereign states may act in any way they wish so long as they do not contravene an explicit prohibition. The Bozkurt-Lotus case decided by the Permanent Court of International Justice PCIJ in 1927 became a landmark in international law especially regarding issues of jurisdiction and the extent of a state's rights to assert criminal jurisdiction over foreign nationals. The case arose from the collision between the S.S. Lotus a French vessel and the S.S. Bozkurt a Turkish ship near the Greek island of Mytilene on 2 August 1926. After the collision eight Turkish nationals aboard the Bozkurt drowned. In response Turkey arrested and charged the captain of the Lotus Captain Demons for causing the deaths and damages to the Turkish vessel. The Turkish courts condemned him asserting their right to try him for the incident even though the collision occurred in international waters and involved a French ship. France contested the jurisdiction of Turkish courts over the captain arguing that Turkey could not claim the right to prosecute a foreign national for actions committed on a foreign vessel in international waters. France brought the case before the PCIJ to challenge Turkey's legal authority. The court ruled in favour of Turkey emphasizing that under international law there was no general prohibition against a state asserting jurisdiction over crimes involving foreign nationals even when the incident occurred outside its territorial waters. The PCIJ's decision established the principle that absent an explicit prohibition in international law states are free to exercise jurisdiction in cases where they have a legitimate interest even if the matter involves foreign nationals and occurred in international waters. This judgment reinforced the notion of state sovereignty in determining jurisdiction and highlighted the extent to which international law permits states to assert legal authority over incidents involving foreign nationals under certain conditions. However it also raised important questions about extraterritorial jurisdiction and the balance between state sovereignty and international cooperation in legal matters. "The Lotus principle or Lotus approach usually considered a foundation of international law says that sovereign states may act in any way they wish so long as they do not contravene an explicit prohibition. The application of this principle - an outgrowth of the Lotus case - to future incidents raising the issue of jurisdiction over people on the high seas was changed by article 11 of the Convention on the High Seas. The convention held in Geneva in 1958 laid emphasis on the fact that only the flag state or the state of which the alleged offender was a national had jurisdiction over sailors regarding incidents occurring on the high seas." Wikipedia. It is the first legal Turkish success achieved in the international arena after the proclamation of the Republic. Karakus. In court the Turkish side was represented by Mahmut Esat Bozkurt who was the Minister of Justice at the time. When Turkey adopted the formal surname system in 1934 Mahmut Esat chose the surname "Bozkurt" as a reminder of the landmark case. Sources: Karakus H.Burak. 2013. 18765735Chalchuapa El Salvador 1876. Still very good. 3pp. on a bifolium. Folio. Crinkling and minor wear at edges. Faint dampstain to upper right corner. The president of Guatemala Justo Rufino Barrios invaded El Salvador in 1876 following the presidential election there. Barrios suspected that both the elected and former presidents had been harboring Guatemalan opponents to his regime and hope to install someone more favorable. The present "political plan" for El Salvador reads more as an indictment of the two leaders Santiago Gonzalez and Andres del Valle than an as organizing document for a new government. The first signer here is Rafael Zaldivar the choice of Barrios for next president of El Salvador and the work was printed in the field at Chalchuapa on April 10 1876 approximately one week before the decisive battles that forced the capitulation of the Salvadoran government. An otherwise unrecorded 1853 broadside in which Rafael Carrera addresses the army and people of Guatemala concerning the ongoing strife with Honduras. 18552763Guatemala 1855. Fair. 3pp. on a bifolium. Small folio. Leaves no longer integral. Heavy chipping and wear at edges quarter-sized hole through upper center of both leaves but only a small amount of text actually affected. Moderate tanning and soiling. A scarce 1855 broadside in which Guatemalan caudillo Rafael Carrera addresses Hondurans regarding the perceived malign intentions of their president José Trinidad Cabañas. Honduras with Cabañas at the helm had been in conflict with Guatemala since 1853 and it was Cabañas' stated goal to reunite the states of the defunct Federal Republic of Central America to which end he also invaded Nicaragua in 1854. In this address Carrera states the need to invade Honduras in order to halt the aggressions of Cabañas reiterates his desire for peace and friendship with "true" Hondurans and promises his assistance in reestablishing a reasonable government in their country. It reads in part:

A somewhat tattered copy but not in OCLC. unknown
