Contents loose in binding. 7" x 9"; approx. pp. 120 mostly heavy cardstock leaves rich with numerous drawings in ink watercolor paintings poems and prose -- all entirely by hand from numerous contributors. Hinges cracked with text block detached and loose in the binding. Jacket a little worn with a few small spots of staining here and there. Pages are clean and lovely. Stationer's ticket on rear paste-down indicating William Lyon of Glasgow. An inscription reveals that this volume was a gift "To Rose from Mrs. A. Y. Mackay Xmas 1899" and it seems that Rose lovingly circulated it for years thereafter. Contains a wealth of skilled watercolors landscapes and figures contributed by numerous artists including another Mackay cute pen and ink cartoons by some wonderfully adept illustrators poems and prose copied out by many hands often decorated a musical piece and more. Nearly every page is full. <br/><br/> hardcover

A book which combines beautiful painting with a light and entertaining text which is nevertheless scientifically accurate and contains information never before collected together. The book not only sets out to display the beauty of the birds but also to stimulate the interest of ordinary bird-watchers. Both the artist and the author live in Karen Kenya and spend a great part of their lives in the habitat described in this book.<br /> <br /> Signed by Rena Fennessy on the title page. Each work is skillfully painted by a fine artist with a steady hand. . Silk is an unforgiving medium corrections are impossible. Painting must be done without the least bit of hesitation otherwise the silk will be forever spoiled. . THE PAINTING SUBJECTS: . a. Shows a lone fisherman on a small river boat plying his passion meditating while feigning to fish. He is surrounded by a tree-lined shore line with rolling hills in the background. . b. Illustrates a woman in a canopy-covered boat leisurely day-dreaming on the peaceful river with lotus blossoms and leaves. A 'weeping willow' tree over hangs the water. There is a small pagoda in the background on the top of a mountain on the opposite and distant side of the river. . c. Depicts a river scene with a man on a small 'house boat' preparing to fish. The foreground has two 'weeping willow' trees with the mountains past the river in the background. . These kinds and styles of contemporary Chinese paintings were distributed by the Guoji Shudian Rong Bao Zhai and other similar Beijing book & art studios during the 1950-1960's. . There was a stable of yet to be famous young aspiring artists who created traditional Chinese landscapes for these studios. . CONDITION: Each item is in excellent condition very clean no stains.
