Grandville gegraveerd door meerdere kunstenaars zoals Sears Piaud en Grandville zelf. Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard Grandville 1803-1847 was een Franse tekenaar en karikaturist. Hij werd immens populair met zijn politieke satire. Na de herinvoering van de vroegere censuur op de karikatuur in 1835 legde Grandville zich bijna uitsluitend toe op het illustreren van boeken. Hij leverde illustraties voor verschillende standaardwerken zoals De fabels van La Fontaine Don Quichot en Gulliver's Travels. In deze verhalen verloor hij nooit zijn satirische manier van uitbeelden. Zelfs in zijn fabels is te zien hoe hij dacht over de hedendaagse maatschappij. B2317 hardcover

Jean de La Fontaine 1621-1695 was the most famous French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his Fables which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France and in French regional language.
