Grandvilles eigentlich Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard das er 1829 bei Bulla in Paris als Sammlung von 70 Lithographien herausbrachte und ihn mit einem Schlag berühmt machte. Für diese spätere Ausgabe wurden von zeitgenössischen Autoren zusätzliche Texte verfaßt und die Verleger griffen für die Vignetten zu Beginn jedes der 70 Kapitel und die Illustrationen am Ende cul-de-lampe auf andere spätere Zeichnungen von Grandville zurück. So wurde beispielsweise die Illustration am Schluß ein Selbstbildnis Grandvilles den "Cent Proverbes" Hundert Sprichwörter entnommen. Wenngleich viele Illustrationen sich auf aktuelle Anlässe bezogen bleiben die Schilderungen menschlichen Verhaltens doch zeitlos / J. J. Grandville's actually Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard first major work published in 1829 by Bulla in Paris as a collection of 70 lithographs catapulted him to fame. For this later edition contemporary authors contributed additional texts and the publishers used other later drawings by Grandville for the vignettes at the beginning of each of the 70 chapters and the illustrations at the end cul-de-lampe. For example the final illustration a self-portrait of Grandville was taken from "Cent Proverbes" One Hundred Proverbs. Although many illustrations referenced current events the depictions of human behavior remain timeless - unknown
