First edition of this fascinating series of printed photographs of Ford Motor Companyâ€™s annual Industrial Arts Award and also featured banquet awards ceremony as well as exhibition for viewing. Although originally founded in 1946 following World War II sponsored by Scholastic Magazine the popularity of the contest quickly grew as consuming interest in developing industrial arts programs during the post-War era sponsored by the fast expanding American automakers with an insatiable need for designers. The early 1950â€™s at Ford featured the design and styling of Gregorie & Bill Schmidt which set the tone for those model years and Ford itself heavily pushed the contest by advertising contest information through â€œShopCraftâ€ magazines distributed to teachers and students. This portfolio features categories of Electrical Open Wrought Metal Model Molding Woodwork Ceramics Mechanical Drawing architectural Drawing Printing machine Shop Patternmaking Plastics and Leathercraft. Winning projects includes some remarkable such as 12th grader Robert Requarthâ€™s working lucite model of a 1941 Mercury Engine; Ronald Maziarzâ€™s Aero-Sled featuring futuristic styling and working aircraft model; several Mid-Century Modern architectural suburban ranch-style homes and much more.
