Intera annata (1930) della prestigiosa rivista mensile statunitense di architettura e arredamento di interni "THE ARCHITECTURAL RECORD", rilegata in due grandi tomi (di dimensioni 22,5 x 30 cm circa). Si tratta di un'annata particolarmente interessante in quanto, al suo interno, oltre alle numerose immagini fotografiche, sono presenti anche tavole illustrate (alcune delle quali a colori). La rivista, di grande pregio e interesse, tratta numerosissime tipologie diverse di edifici: dai grattacieli, alle ville, agli appartamenti ma anche istituti penitenziari e prigioni, negozi, ponti, uffici, ospedali, testri, stezioni di servizio (per il rifornimento di benzina), aereoporti, ristoranti, scuole, banche e tanto altro. Si caratterizza per uno spelndido apparato iconografico davvero ricco e di prestigio. Lingua del testo: inglese. Stato di conservazione: i due volumi, in passato, appartenevano ad una biblioteca americana (e conservano, al loro interno, due belle etichette illustrate in carta (incollate sul retro dei piatti anteriori), il timbro, perforato ad aghi, sui due frontespizi e su quattro o cinque pagine interne dei due volumi e, sull'ultima pagina del primo volume sono presenti un foglio e una tasca incollate) un vistoso strappo ("riparato" con del nastro adesivo sul foglio ch contiene le due pagine 471-472 (del secondo volume), un piccolo strappo (senza mancanza) sul margine del foglio che contiene le pagine 477-478 (sempre del secondo volume) e un terzo strappo (anch'esso senza mancanza) sull'ultimo foglio di guardia (appartenente alla rilegatura e non alla rivista in sè) del primo volume. Il secondo volume presenta delle macchie bianche sul piatto anteriore. Nel complesso, comunque, si tratta di un'annata decisamente ben conservata. Priva di scritte o sottolineature. Completa.

Progetti realizzati da Arnim, Eisenlohr, Wolff, Schultz, Stuler, Strack, Hesse, Eberhard, Dorst, Schadow, Persius, Lohse, Braunmuhl, Karchow, Casper, Hahnemann, Lehnert, Hitzig, Borstell, Lohse, Kirchhoff, Thomann, Stier, Knoblauch, Wentzel. Interessante documentazione sullo stile neoclassico e Biedermeier, che ebbe un’influenza notevole sul Jugenstil, il Bauhaus e l’architettura modernista dell’inizio del XX secolo in genere. Difetti alle cartelle originali (piccoli strappi, riparazioni); lievi fioriture ad alcune tavole dovute alla qualità della carta.

I numeri di gennaio, agosto e settembre sono dedicati all'illuminazione di Milano, precisamente al Foro Bonaparte e alla Stazione Centrale (con un tavola ripiegata). Segni d'uso, rari segni a matita blu ad alcuni fascicoli, scritta a penna al piatto del fasc. 5, scotch a una pagina di un fascicolo, complessivamente in buono stato.

A celebratory overview of Western modernist architecture with detailed analysis of the works of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright Walter Gropius Richard Neutra Laszlo Moholy-Nagy Le Corbusier Bruno Taut and Ernst May among others. The volume is illustrated with numerous photographs of architectural plans as well as finished constructions. The author architectural and art historian David Arkin 1899-1957 published this work at a critical moment when the official Soviet policy was starting to turn away from Western and early modernist examples. A professor at the Moscow Architectural Institute he was accused of "cosmopolitanism" for publishing this work though he managed to avoid deportation. Nel 1986, Ansaldo Group, il piu grande gruppo italiano per costruzioni meccaniche, navi, ferrovie, centrali di energia, diede l' incarico a Sottsass Associati, guidata da Ettore Sottsass, di progettare il Graphic System Guide per coordinare l'immagine della societa in tutte le sedi italiane e straniere. Ne ? nata questa pubblicazione in 6 volumi con cofanetto, prodotto in pochi semplari per ciascuna sede Ansaldo. Sottsass aveva progettato anche il marchio Ansaldo. Bible of the Ansaldo Group, the largest Italian group for mechanical construction, ships,railways, power plants, commissioned Sottsass Associati, led by Ettore Sottsass , to design the graphic System Guide to coordinate the company's image in all the Italian and foreign branches. The result was this 6 - volume publication with slipcase, produced in a few copies (50) for each Ansaldo headquarters. Sottsass had also designed the Ansaldo trademark. Fine condition

David Hofstein (1889-1952) was a Russian-born Jewish poet who, after the Russian Revolution of 1917, which he welcomed...wrote only in Yiddish. He was coeditor of the Moscow Yiddish monthly Shtrom, the last organ of free Jewish expression in the Soviet Union. The poems in which he acclaimed the communist regime established him as one of the Kiev triumvirate of Yiddish poets, along with Leib Kvitko and Peretz Markish. Hofstein's elegies for Jewish communities devastated by the White movement pogroms appeared in 1922, with illustrations by Marc Chagall. Both had worked together as teachers at shelter for Jewish boys in suburban Malakhovka, which housed and employed boys orphaned by Ukrainian pogroms. Hofstein protested the banning of Hebrew and the persecution of Hebrew writers, arousing the suspicion of the authorities . In 1939, Hofstein became member of the Communist Party. Hofstein hailed the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948; however, in the same year, when Joseph Stalin withdrew his support for Israel, Hofstein was arrested, together with Kvitko, Markish and other members of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee, first transported to Moscow and then to Siberia. He was executed on the Night of the Murdered Poets (August 1213, 1952) , together with twelve other Yiddish writers and artists. After the death of Stalin, they were posthumously rehabilitated, and Hofstein's selected works reappeared in a Russian translation in 1958 (Wikipedia) . SUBJECT(S) : Yiddish poetry. Poems.
