Rara pubblicazione delle cartiere Burgo di Torino, a cura del Servizio Vendite, con disegni ed impaginazione di Aldo Novarese. Testi in italiano, francese, inglese, tedesco. Il catalogo presenta una serie di tavole ricorrenti (esempi di fotografie di dipinti ad olio, immagini fotografiche di vario tipo) riprodotte piu' volte utilizzando diverse tipologie di carte patinate prodotte dalle cartiere Burgo di Torino. Le varie sezioni sono intervallate da fogli con composizioni grafiche di Novarese fatte a partire dalle lettere della parola Burgo. Una copia di questo catalogo e' stata esposta nel 2020 presso la Biblioteca Iuav di Venezia nell'ambito della mostra "Carta e acciaio. Legatura a spirale ed editoria modernista" come esempio di legatura a spirale di ascendenza modernista: "Negli anni venti del Novecento le avanguardie europee sperimentano variazioni sugli aspetti e la materialita' del libro interpretando i valori del macchinismo, del funzionalismo e della comunicazione visiva allargata, potenziati dall'uso della fotografia. Uno degli elementi progettuali su cui si agisce e' lo snodo della legatura delle pagine: la 'causa' modernista assume la legatura metallica a spirale. Nata in metallo e diffusa specialmente dalla fine anni venti anche in Europa, viene elaborata rapidamente in varianti sia a piu' fili e spessori sia in plastica, coperte da brevetti assieme ai macchinari per eseguirle".

In 4, cm. 25,5 x 36,5, pp. 330 circa non numerate con centinaia di illustrazioni in bianco e nero e a colori anche a piena e doppia pagina. Il volume e' qualcosa di piu' di un catalogo che mostra i prodotti Esprit, un marchio che ha fondato il suo successo miscelando in modo impeccabile il prodotto, l'immagine e il contesto. Racconta una storia che parte dagli anni '70, quando prese il via 'Esprit de Corps', una collezione caratterizzata da una forte impronta casual; della nascita del logo, quando la E rovesciata fa il giro del mondo; delle molte sfide, una fra tutte quella di superare l'apparentemente inevitabile fine del marchio di un'azienda mondiale specializzata in merce di tendenza fino a quando nel 1980 una miscuglio di sette diversi nomi commerciali vengono riuniti sotto un unico nome 'Esprit'. Oliviero Toscani entra nel team creativo alla ricerca di un'immagine forte e innovativa che ha caratterizzato Esprit negli anni. Tutto questo emerge dalle moltissime illustrazioni fotografiche di Oliviero Toscani, Roberto Carra, Sharon Risedorph, Gabriele Basilico, Richard Byrane altri. Testi in inglese e cinese.
Album cm 33,5 x 22, con 24 tavole. Firma di possesso alla prima carta bianca. Cartonatura editoriale con dorso in tela. Piccole mancanze al piatto anteriore. Raccolta-campionario di modelli per lettere prevalentemente maiuscole in stile 'moderno' in svariati colori. Non datato ma ascrivibile al 1930 circa. Il designer delle lettere, indicato come Draim, non risulta noto ("designer unknown") sebbene l'album sia presente nella bibliografia sul tema. Cfr. Heller, Fili, "Typology. Profilo biografico dedicato al grafico torinese Danilo Nubioli con alcune correzioni autografe e firma a lapis blu. Curiosamente nel testo e' stato cancellato il nome di Nubioli con inchiostro nero. Di notevole interesse il ricordo dell'incontro dell'architetto con Nubioli nella Torino del primo dopoguerra: '...sbandata, un po' inerte, bianca di calcinacci dei bombardamenti ... in attesa che l'autunno portasse il Salone della meccanica o qualche altra manifestazione dove potersi buttare a tirar su pannelli, a incollare fotografie... E' in questa atmosfera di follia generale, di eccitazione generale di entusiasmo e proiezione verso il futuro che Danilo Nubioli ha iniziato e svolto il suo primo lavoro come personaggio di primo piano...' Nubioli, celebre per aver realizzato il manifesto ufficiale di Italia '61, e' stato uno dei piu' significativi graphic designer italiani. Pauline the second work was published under the same title in French in 1934. The vibrant jacket is one of four commissioned from Ithell Colquhoun by Peter Owen between 1955 and 1956. Colquhoun 1906-1988 was a celebrated artist expelled from the English Surrealist Group for refusing to abandon her occult research. Recent years have seen a resurgence in critical interest in her work and she "is becoming recognized as one of the most interesting and prolific esoteric thinkers and artists of the twentieth century" Hale. Gorgeously designed 4th annual of the American College, Sofia, a prestigious institution founded in 1928 and existing still today, strikingly composed with pictorial elements and richly illustrated throughout. – Contents: The almanac contains a photo documentation of the newly built campus near Simeonovo (in the Vithosha district south of Sofia), presentations of the administration, faculty and students (seniors, classes of girls and boys), as well as group pictures of student's representing different activities like charity work, debating, dramatics, music and athletics. A small chapter is dedicated to student's poetry in Bulgarian language. – Illustration: Present album is elegantly type-faced and printed using clichés with ornamental frames, and it is illustrated throughout with photographic reproductions. They mainly show portraits of faculty members, alumnis and students, as well as the campus and different school buildings. – Condition: Cover slightly bumped at edges and corners, in parts sun-stained and with little war, otherwise very well preserved copy indeed. - Rarity: Of outstanding rarity, OCLC/WorldCat and RBH show no copies at all in institutions and at auction, not of the present and not of any of the school's almanacs.
