1960140390France: Cinedis 1960. Archive of 207 vintage borderless single weight still photographs and contact sheets from the 1960 French film. Numerical annotations on the verso of nearly all photos in holograph pencil several cropped contact sheets mounted on larger sheets. Housed in a vintage French Kodak brand photo paper box with most contact sheets in a two-ring binder similar to keybook photos. Also included is a press folder from the Cinedis agency in Paris with star biographies film credits and scenario on Cinedis parchment. <br/><br/>Seen in the images is starring actor and screenwriter Buissieres including a large portrait actress Carrel several seductive in nature with shots of director Faurez and the film crew in action and images of composer Georges Van Parys and singer Colette Renard famous for her "Irma La Douce" musical roles presumably working on the film soundtrack. Several images in the contact sheets show scenes from the film taking place in an automobile repair shop directed scenes from high on a crane and candid photos of the starring performers. A few of the contact sheets bear credits for the Laboratoire Tele-Photo film title client Cinedis and photographer. ` <br/><br/>Little known gangster drama about a woman and her child caught in the downward spiral of prostitution. <br/><br/>Photos vary in size from 3 x 4.5 inches to 9.25 x 11.75 inches with most being smaller. Avildsen's pitch-black dark comedy about suburban life starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd had a difficult production and a less than ideal reception but as is the often the case the film became a cult favorite. Belushi and Aykroyd play against type Belushi being the ineffectual suburbanite husband and father Earl Keese and Aykroyd the obnoxious menacing Vic Zeck who moves in next door with his femme fatale wife Ramona Cathy Moriarty. After declaring the experiment a failure the aliens decide that due to humans' untidiness crossbreeding vacuum cleaners and humans will produce a better race of beings to inhabit the planet. They subsequently create a sentient vacuum cleaner which is programmed to reproduce with earthlings. A splendid Z-budget effort considered by some to be the worst movie ever made. The entire film is represented in minute detail along with test shots set design shots and many candid off-camera shots from the set. Brief cropping and numerical annotations in pencil throughout. Housed in original mailing envelope noting on the front in holograph red ink "Cinedis" and "C.Hesse" the film distributor and still photographer and "A refreuda" in holograph red pencil. <br/><br/>153 photographs are keybook contact sheets nearly all with 12 images per photograph several with 36 each image with a series number and photos crediting at the top the photo laboratory Tele-Photo production studio France Cinema film title and photographer Hesse Beauvarlet. Remaining photographs are borderless film stills. Both photographers are credited on the keybook photos but went uncredited at the film's release. <br/><br/>The archive also extensively features actress Dany Saval in film scenes answering the phone in heated moments with male cast members including some stunningly low-lit images that echo film noir themes showcasing the variety of hair and clothing styles seen on Saval throughout the film. <br/><br/>Based on Annette Wademant's screenplay one of twelve written by Wademant for director Boisrond. One photograph SIGNED and dated 1969 by photographer Alan Pappe on the verso all photographs with his stamp. <br/><br/>All five photographs feature legendary Italian director Federico Fellini in his cameo role as himself with one showing the director on the set with a clapboard and crew members in front of him while a second features a holograph pencil annotation describing Fellini and actor Donald Sutherland discussing a scene with an out-of-frame director Paul Mazursky. <br/><br/>Pappe worked as a film still and press photographer for 30 years covering a who's who of film and music stars including iconic images of Sharon Tate Jimi Hendrix and Liza Minnelli as well as album cover for the "Grease" soundtrack album and the interior images of Jefferson Airplane's "After Bathing at Baxter's." Miller's play opened on Broadway in 1964 at the ANTA Washington Square Theatre ran for 208 performances and closed on May 29 1965. A television movie of the play was released in 1974 but Mann appears to have not been involved in the project. <br/><br/>Abby Mann 1927-2008 wrote screenplays for "Judgment at Nuremberg" 1961 earning him an Academy Award "A Child Is Waiting" 1963 "Ship of Fools" 1965 "The Detective" 1968 "Report to the Commissioner" 1975 and "War and Love 1985. Fodder for for an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 4 Episode 13 Sept 14 1991 where Gordon was resurrected as a master of bad taste.<br/><br/>Small-town teenagers and their high school science teacher fight a gigantic mutant spider. The last of the "giant creature" films directed by Gordon from the 1950s. In an attempt to ride on the success of "The Fly" which debuted a few months earlier in 1958 the film's working title "The Spider" replaced "Earth vs. the Spider" on most of its promotional materials.
