201023905Los Angeles CA: Playgirl Magazine 2010. First Edition. First Printing. Softcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket As Issued. Los Angeles CA: Playgirl Magazine 2010. Softcover. Fine/None As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 96 pages. Rare Ronnie Kroell and Playgirl Magazine collectible item. A fine copy of the Playgirl Magazine Summer 2010 Issue signed and inscribed by Ronnie Kroell. Also comes with a pristine copy of his Instinct Magazine Cover appearance. Features the Reality TV contestant and supermodel on the cover and full-frontal nude photographs in the inside pages. The Single Issue sold out shortly after publication and became a major global bestseller one of Playgirl Magazine's most successful Issues since its inception. It is now rare. Presents "Playgirl Magazine: Make Me A Supermodel's Ronnie Kroell". Unbelievably sexy full-frontal nudes of the winsome and otherwise All-American Midwest-wholesome supermodel. Playgirl Magazine ceased publication and became an online magazine only in late-2008. The Levi Johnston Winter 2010 Issue marked its very first "single issue" publication since it stopped printing its Monthly as well as Special Issues. It was followed sensationally by this Summer Issue there was no Spring Issue indicating as did happen that the magazine would only be published on a sporadic "opportunistic" basis. As such it consists entirely of full-frontal nude photographs from cover to cover with minimal accompanying editorial content. Ronnie Kroell shows it all for the first and only time in a brilliant career that began auspiciously as evidenced by his Cover Model appearance in Instinct Magazine's September 2008 Issue which comes with this PG classic. Ronnie Kroell is quite simply one of the absolute top models - and one of the nicest - ever to grace the Cover and Inside Pages of Playgirl Magazine in its history. An absolute "must-have" collectible title for Ronnie Kroell and Playgirl Magazine collectors. This copy of the Playgirl Magazine Summer 2010 Issue is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the Front Cover by the model: "Thank you for your support. XOXO Ronnie". It is signed and inscribed directly on the cover itself not on a tipped-in page. The recipient who is named obtained the signature during a rare public appearance of Ronnie Kroell in his native Chicago. It comes with pristine copies of Ronnie Kroell's Souvenir Card which he handed out during the event and the landmark "Ronnie Kroell" Instinct Magazine September 2008 Issue. This title is a contemporary erotic photography classic. As far as we know this is the only such signed and inscribed copy with Souvenir Card and Instinct Magazine bonuses available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean crisp and bright. Please note: Ronnie Kroell did NOT sign most copies of the magazine. A rare signed copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with color plates. A fine collectible set. 193160567Milwaukee: Die Hausfrau 1931. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Zula Kenyon cover. Milwaukee: Die Hausfrau 1931. The March Marz 1931 issue of Die Hausfrau "Monatsschrift fur die Frauenwelt Amerikas" roughly Monthly Review for the American Woman". Text in German. Tall quarto almost folio illustrated stapled wraps 58 pp. Cover is - IMHO - one of the most engaging ever executed by the estimable Zula Kenyon whose pastels were achieved with her own recipes. Here she gave us an astonishingly feminine and enchanting female image a nameless mona lisa who literally raises the concept of 'flapper' to an entirely different level of meaning. See the scan. A color interior illustration "A Glimpse of Nature's Wonderland" is from a painting by C.A. Mills; deeper inside is some poetry by German writer/poet Paul Heyse Paul Johann Ludwig von Heyse and at the front a charming photo of Billie Dove. And much more of course. Better than Very Good; a closed cut on the back cover extending into the last few interior pages is the only salient flaw else this would be a near fine example. Just moderate toning to the still-quite-supple interior pages; and in this rare case there is no original subscriber's mailing label printed anywhere. See scans. A nice example particularly with the elevating Kenyon contribution. Die Hausfrau was published for German-Americans in the mid-20th century but you don't have to be able to read German to appreciate the covers the interior color plates in some issues see above the craft pages short fiction sometimes illustrated poetry the frequent geographically whimsical articles music ads and the excruciatingly home-y black and white photos in Die Hausfrau. This will take ya back. Well depending on how old you are.Americana in German. The cover illustrations are often the equal of - and in this case superior to - those on English language magazines of the era that bring much higher prices. Stout collector's condition. Please see all scans. Lpr6

Die Hausfrau paperback

2475913 June 1854; 67 Arlington Street Mornington Crescent London. An interesting item casting light on Victorian London publishing of periodical literature. For Passmore Edwards to whom London is indebted for innumerable public libraries many now closed see his entry in the Oxford DNB. ‘The Biographical Magazine’ was founded in 1852 and the first two volumes were published by ‘J. Passmore Edwards 2 Horse-shoe Court Ludgate Hill’. Vols 3 to 5 were published by the London firm Partridge & Oakey after which it appears to have ceased publication in the year of this letter although it may have continued for a few years as ‘Lives of the Illustrious’. Some sources name Edwards as the editor but this item disproves that claim. The preface to the first volume reproduces the prospectus referred to in the letter. 3pp 12mo. Bifolium. Fifty-seven lines of neatly-written text. In good condition lightly aged with the blank reverse of the second leaf adhering to a brown paper panel cut from the leaf of an album. He begins by explaining that he has delayed replying to the recipient’s suggestion until he ‘might be able to give some decisive answer’. ‘The propriety of such a monthly obituary as you propose has been several times under discussion but the cons have always prevailed over the pros’. He expected to have met with the publishers the previous day ‘to decide some little matters & then proposed to introduce the subject again; but something interfering then I must take another opportunity’. After setting out the ‘strongest objection’ and observing that the magazine sells better in volume-form ‘than the numbers’ he continues: ‘We are the more chary of any change as our circulation is at present very small. The Magazine has not had a fair trial before the public & is in many places I find absolutely unknown; this may in part account for the want of success.’ He has been ‘attempting to inaugurate a system of advertising’ and if ‘finances would allow’ feels that it would be ‘a great improvement to introduce also a portrait of each individual & perhaps afterwards other historical illustrations. At this I intend to aim.’ He is enclosing ‘an old prospectus or two. If you have an opportunity of introducing the Magazine anywhere they may be of service. I have nothing more recent at hand just now.’ He ends with thanks and an apology for ‘the hurry with which this is written’. 13 June 1854; 67 Arlington Street, Mornington Crescent, London. unknown
