George Crabbe 24 December 1754 3 February 1832 was an English poet and naturalist. The two works for which Crabbe became best known were The Village 1783 and The Borough 1810 both lengthy poems dealing with the way of life he had experienced. In 1783 he also married Sarah. In 1814 he became Rector of Trowbridge in Wiltshire where he remained. By the time of his death he was well regarded and a friend of William Wordsworth Sir Walter Scott and other major literary figures of the time. Complete in two volumes. In quarter diced bindings with marbled boards. Externally sound though rubbed. Some slight loss to paper on front board of volume II. Front joint of volume I starting but firm. Internally firmly bound. Armorial bookplate of Nathaniel Preston to front pastedowns of both volumes. Ink signatures to title pages. Inside both volumes bookplate of H. Martin Mowll Baron Henry Martyn Mowll of the Cinque Ports to front pastedowns. There is smatterings of foxing throughout books worse at the beginning and end of volumes with Vol II slightly cleaner. The fold out plates are Foxed with some transfer. A reasonable tightly bound set with an interesting provenance and extra biography of author.
