1634 · 9164 — London: Marmaduke Parsons William Stansby Robert Milbourne - Milborne 1634. An adorable early 17th century Welsh book of Common Prayer and Psalms which seen as almost obsessive devotional use to the point where many leaves are rolled one onto the next. The book has pasteboard covers with the remnants of clasps together with an improvised vernacular sheepskin outer binding. The book bears early evidence of female ownership in the inscription of 'Ann Williams' to the verso of the Psalms' title page. Salesbury and John Davies' Welsh book of Common Prayer from 1634 is found here as often bound with Edmund Prys's translation into Welsh of the Psalms. DESCRIPTION: Octavo lacking the general title - and 11 ensuing leaves; the Book of Common Prayer begins on B5 and continues to V2 as called for; title page to Psalmau Dafydd 1634: Psalms 2A-2L; M2 - complete. Psalmau 1638 : A4 B-I7 - lacking final leaf. The pages are browned marked and massively dog earred to the point where many leaves have to be unrolled to be opened at all.
