Holdsworth thought highly of this book noting its "a learned book-the author tells us that he had consulted nearly a hundred authorities; the idea of making such a book was original; and the main features of the constitution are set out." In his preface Jacob indicates that he did not write this treatise on England's Constitution for the landed gentry exclusively but for "gentlemen of all ranks" that is the literate general public. This distinction is significant. Jacob though certainly interested in boosting sales by attracting the widest audience possible was an idealist who believed that widespread knowledge of the law would help create a more just society. Son of the illustrious actor Montfleury and like him attached to the Hôtel de Bourgogne his first plays were farces around 1660 then producing about one play per year he evolved toward satire and social criticism. He was a rival of Molière who had mocked his father in L'Impromptu de Versailles to which he responded with L'Impromptu de l'Hôtel de Condé but while Molière drew his manner from Italian theater Montfleury freely drew inspiration from Spanish theater; his comic theater is not a comedy of characters but a satire of contemporary society. Very large engraved folding plan comprising 1 1/2 sheets measuring 46 x 83 cm as assembled engraved by Danckert Danckertsz. and his father after drawings by Jacob Vennekool including the two hemispheres of the world map and a celestial map of the constellations of the northern hemisphere each 10 cm in diameter. Very large engraved plan showing the extraordinary cartographic mosaic floor of the Burgerzaal of the Amsterdam City Hall designed by Jacob van Campen with a celestial map in the centre and the magnificent map of the world in 2 hemispheres on either side. The engraving was first published in 1661 and the map shows Tasman's recent discoveries in Australia and Tasmania and depicts California as an island. Many discoveries from his second voyage remained otherwise unpublished until the end of the 17th-century. This engraved representation is all that is left of this cartographical work of art. Wear caused by people walking on the mosaic meant it had to be restored about a hundred years later. When in turn this restoration was damaged the two hemispheres were filled in with plain marble slabs without pictorial representation.The drawing of the floor was made by Jacob Vennekool who worked closely with Van Campen and since his drawings were first published even before the building was completed they may reflect Van Campen's plan more closely than the finished building itself. They also of course show it before the alterations made at various times in later years.Slightly wrinkled in the right margin one fold reinforced and a few tiny spots otherwise in very good condition.l Cf. He gave the first detailed and accurate description of the spinal cord De medulla spinali Gottingen; 1741; but he dealt mainly with the external appearances; which he illustrated accurately; and with the accessory nerve of Willis Clarke and O'Malley; 1968. His account of the internal features of the cord did not advance beyond those already published. To the first fascicle of Albrecht von Haller's famous leones anatomicae Gottingen; 1743-1755; Huber contributed descriptions of the uterus and spinal cord. This eulogy is then extended to general reflections on premature death.</p><p>Romansh is considered to be one of the oldest Romance languages in Europe. It was originally spoken by people living in Raetia during the Roman Empire's rule over Europe. After Rome fell the language continued to develop independently from Latin - the language from which all Romance languages are derived—and developed its distinct characteristics. Over time it spread throughout what is now Switzerland and became widely spoken among local populations there.
