195226607New York: Exposition Press. Fine. c.1952. First Edition. Hardcover. no dust jacket a nice clean copy with no discernible wear. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To / Doctor Charles: -- / The best of luck always / and thanks for your / buoyancy and happiness. / It's such a tonic. / Simply and Happy / Reading! / Affectionately / Eva E. Moses / Pleuty." Vanity press novel set in the early 20th century about the life of a family that migrates from Minnesota to Saskatchewan. Although there's generally a kind of broad assumption that most vanity press novels are thinly-disguised autobiography in this case one contemporary reviewer of the book noted that "one has the feeling while reading this story that Eva Moses is writing not so much from actual experience as from hearsay." An uncommon book this copy unfortunately lacking the dust jacket. Signed by Author . Exposition Press hardcover books

182442478Unpaginated. 30 b/w etchings. Etched title and 29 plates. The images are reminiscent of but more charming than those in Cooke's "Shipping and Craft." Brewington lists Moses as an English etcher who was born in 1782 in London. He worked for the British Museum and died in 1870. Moses published books of drawings of art objects and of historical scenes throughout the first half of the 19th century. However this title is among his scarcest. The present copy contains parts 1-4 in his series of waterfront views. Each image is dated so we can trace the progression from the Thames to Sheerness to the Dockyards. As time went on he issued more prints until he was able to publish an issue with 57 etchings. The edition offered here is rare with only two copies listed on OCLC. Brewington Dictionary p. 268. Scattered foxing some pages rather grubby but still a good copy of a lovely collection of images. Bound in 19th century 1/4 calf over marbled boards with gilt spine decoration.

Henry Moses hardcover books
