The collection was intended to preserve and re-circulate a number of Mendelssohns shorter philosophical essays many of which had previously appeared scattered across contemporary journals and had already become difficult to obtain. In bringing them together Müchler ensured the continued availability of texts that illuminate the breadth of Mendelssohns thought and the literary clarity for which he was celebrated.With a bookplate mounted on the front pastedown inscribed Noel Gouton 1903 made by Stern Graveur a prominent Parisian engraving house active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries which specialized in high-quality ex-libris. Bishop William Moses was known as the "Baptist Garvey" and was actually a close friend of Marcus Garvey. He stood by Garvey when he was under attack and indicted for mail fraud and continued to speak out in his behalf. Unfortunately he was also involved with Garvey in a disastrous attempt to negotiate an agreement with the Ku Klux Klan. Garvey lost a lot of supporters because of this and Moses pastor of the Philadelphia Zion Baptist Church was asked to leave the church by the elders. This work focuses on the subjugation of the dark races by whites. Moses' goes through history to make his point and much of the discussion is on the international community. His solution for black advancement seems to be "black evangelism" or an active role of the church in the social and political development of the dark races.</p> Lisle Carey Press hardcover

Text throughout printed on blue paper following the first title page.<br /> <br /> This historically important work is a treatise and reference work on the natural sciences which is famous for its numerous woodcut illustrations and figures. It was the first Hebrew book of its kind to be published. It's author was the early Enlightenment Polish-Jewish physician Tobias Cohen aka Toviyyah ben Moshe ha-Kohen or Toviyah Kats 1652-1729. The work was first published in Venice in 1707 and is divided into three parts covering covers numerous topics including medicine physiology anatomy hygiene botany zoology cosmology and astronomy. Includes at total of 26 black woodblock illustrated figures and diagrams throughout outlining creation depicting the geocentric and heliocentric models of the solar system the four elements plants insects physical phenomena and ships sailing on the the spherical globe of the world among others. The third part is the most notable for its famous illustrated figure known as "The House of the Body" which shows the detailed interior anatomy of the human body and a multi-story house side by side relating and comparing the organs of the body to the divisions of the house. The work is also includes theology and cosmology from a Jewish context and discusses Sabbatianism.<br /> <br /> Text in Hebrew. <br /> <br /> Binding with rubbing to the extremities as well as abrasions and scratches to the paper boards. Front board starting to crack at the top of the front hinge. Starting following the second title page and at the interior rear cover. Signed in pencil lower right and with a presentation inscription lower left. 9 7/8 x 6 7/8 inches plate 11 3/8 x 8 inches sheet. Printed on paper watermarked "Rives" with deckle on four sides. A striking image very well achieved with much of its effect attributable to the wiping of the plate. A crease in the lower left corner and with evidence of hinging in the top corners else in excellent condition. We have found little biographical information on this artist but we have seen etched portraits of Toscanini and of Justice Holmes. We have seen an example of this print offered with the title "Sam." unknown

Originally written circa 1190 in Judeo-Arabic as Dalalat al-Ha'irin these writings takes the form of a lengthy three-part letter to his student Rabbi Joseph ben Judah of Ceuta and are seen as the main source for understanding Maimonides' philosophic view rather than his strictly being his views on Jewish law. It is the most known of his works in the non-Jewish world.
