I really do appreciate your sympathy for my Country and myself thanks for your good wishes." Fine condition.<br/><br/> Congolese radical Politian who in 1961 became President of the Government of the Province of Katanga eventually seceding from the rest of the Congo. He succeeded in getting military assistance from Belgium and was responsible for Patrice Lumumba being transferred to Katanga where he was executed. After U.N. forces re-captured Katanga in 1963 Tshombe was driven into exile in Northern Rhodesia. He briefly returned as Prime Minister a year later but was eventually dismissed. The Bohn edition is well known for its fine coloring and its excellent paper quality. „Harris was encouraged in entomology from a young age by his uncle a member of the Society of the Aurelians. In 1762 he became secretary of a second Society of Aurelians. He was a skilled artist displaying some of his insect drawings at the Royal Academy in 1785. This is a volume of a gallery of pictures by Benjamin West which have been engraved by Henry Moses. With seventeen plates.Collated complete. Undated dated from Jisc. In full cloth binding. Externally worn. Both boards are detached and the spine is missing. The boards remain smart. Previous owner inscription to the front free endpaper dated 1845. Spine and board edges are rubbed; front board with a vertical crease from fold; a solidly bound copy with light to moderate foxing scattered throughout.<br /> <br /> Campbell 1779-1842 was a Petersburg VA bookstore owner and historian. He was father of Charles Campbell who was himself a history of colonial Virginia. Another edition of this present work with the same collation and pagination errors bears a Petersburg imprint. Howes's entry suggests that this Philadelphia imprint was first. In addition to Campbell's history the book also contains the "Constitution of Virginia" p. 226-237 and concludes with a "Sketch of the History of the Church in Virginia" attributed to Moses Hoge by the cataloguer at the American Antiquarian Society. An uncommon and early Virginia history all the more uncommon in publisher's binding. This copy with a previous owner name of Elihu B. Beginning in the early 30's three of the most prominent leaders in the Zionist movement became vocal critics of the division already present in the British-Mandate administration of Palestine proponents of a unified Arab-Jewish state. This first testimony following the war was given before a joint British-American committee convened with the expressed interest of exploring the role of British Palestine in the settlement of Jewish war refugees. The committee also saw testimony from nationalist Zionists such as David Ben Gurion as well as Arab Palestinians. The findings of the committee would be gathered up into a proposal for a federal government under British administration drafted by British cabinet minister Herbert Morrison and US ambassador Henry F. Grady. The Morrison-Grady plan was mutually rejected by Jews and Arabs. From the introduction: 'The Ihud Union Association was formed in September 1942. It is not a political party. . Though members of Ihud may have varying views on details they are united in the firm conviction that there is but one way of meeting the Palestine problem--that of Jewish-Arab cooperation. . The Ihud Union association stands for the union of Jews and Arabs in a bi-national Palestine based on the parity of the two peoples.' 'A first edition of the Arabic text and the Hebrew text of the Problemata Physica ascribed to Aristotle which has been elaborated in later Antiquity in Greek. The text corresponding with the first 15 books of the existing Greek text contains chiefly medical problems but also biological and mathematical ones. Therefore this volume deals with a comparison of the existing Greek text and the lost extended Greek version only transmitted in this Arabic translation and in this Hebrew translation of the Arabic version. The authorship of the famous translator Hunain Ibn Ishaq has been discussed. The role of the Problemata Physica in Arabic literature has not been omitted. Interesting for Semitic linguistics is the description of the language used by ḥunain ibn IshÄq and Moses ibn Tibbon and of the influence of Arabic on the Hebrew of the translators.
