1812678L9London: Cadell and Davies 1812. Hardback. Good Only. 9" by 5.5". None. A new edition of Adam Smith's magnum opus very scarce in its original boards. Adam Smith the Scottish philosopher and economist is best known for this work which was first published in 1776. Top edge remains unopened to first few gatherings to volume III. Half titles to volumes 2 and 3 as called for. Very rare in original boards and unopened. To this work Smith offers one of the first descriptions of what builds nations wealth. It is regarded as a corner stone of classical economics. This fundamental study reflects on economics at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution whilst discussing productivity free markets and division of labour. 'The Wealth of Nations' was formed of almost two decades of notes by Smith his earlier works and an observation of conversations among economists at the time. It took Smith almost a decade to write. This 'New Edition' has an account of the author's life for the first time in addition to studies on the author and the French economists. This edition retains Smith's original introduction and has his advertisements for the third and fourth editions. Five editions of this work were published during Smith's lifetime. In the original paper covered boards. Externally sound with rubbing to the joints and extremities. Loss to the head and tail of spine. Rear hinge to volume I is weak and held by one cord only. Front hinge and joint to volume III is tender with cords showing. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Occasional scattered spots to pages. Good Only Cadell and Davies hardcover

1938355490716997London: Geoffrey Bles 1938. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. The book itself is the correct Geoffrey Bles first issue with red cloth boards with white lettering and publisher's device on the spine and the title in white on the front cover. A near fine copy. In the VERY RARE D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap as called for. The D/W is a lovely example in the photographic style its only minor fault being the number 13 written in biro at the top left hand corner of the back panel. Quoting from the Spectator review of the time: "The fact that a Professor begins lecturing 'to the accompaniment of a hundred pens and pencils scratching over the surface of as many note-books' suggests to me that Adam Broome hails from Girton. Be that as it may two West African students are shot and an extraordinary pseudo-Gothic or Late-Temperance-Tract style of verbal architecture is maintained throughout. For anyone who wants a novel view of . East Anglia this book is a snip". Rare. Geoffrey Bles hardcover

Kulmus practiced at Danzig and his Tabulae anatomicae were very popular and have been repeatedly reprinted and translated. The "Anatomische Tabellen" were even translated into Japanese after a Japanese physician named MAYENO had satisfied himself by a dissection of a Japanese woman Aocha-Baba that they presented the true anatomical relations and thus demonstrated that such anatomy as had been taught in Japan up to that time was absolutely false. cf. First editions thus of these catalogues and exceedingly rare complete salesman sample kit for the Wagner Manufacturing garage door hardware in the 1920s. After World War I the explosion and popularity of automobile ownership in the United States created a desperate need to house these often cantankerous and essential machines for homes businesses and commercial fleets. By quickly adapting their hardware sets for elevator doors first introduced before World War I Wagner was able to quickly capitalize on the market growth and need for door hardware to retrofit existing garages as well as new construction. Often coupled with doors produced by Johnson Fimbel Hartford Barber-Colman Overhead and Crawford the Wagner hardware sets proved durable and popular. In addition this sample kit features the specialized steel stud brackets developed by Wagner to help brace garages and sheds adapted for garage doors to hold automobiles as the weight of the doors could damage existing construction as Americans were interested in rolling doors and sectional garage doors rather than traditional swing-out barn-type doors. Wagner 1871-1937 originally founded his company in Cedar Falls IA in 1904 to manufacture children’s sleds coaster wagons and hay rack fixtures with a variety of door hardware. They merge with Star Elevator Doors before World War I and later with Boardman Elevator Control of Chicago with primary customers as Otis Elevator and Westinghouse. In 1934 Wagner began producing the iconic Wagner Overhead Garage Door and by the 1950s had become one of the largest garage door manufacturers in the country. Worldcat locates 1 copy of No. 25 Harvard; and 1 of Wagner-Star Elevator Door Cat Univ. of Kansas; no copies of the other catalogues or examples of the Salesman Sample Model in case.
