br. Si applica certo anche a Wagner l'aspirazione, che in quegli stessi anni avanzava il suo coetaneo Verdi, alla "parola scenica", quella «che scolpisce e rende netta ed evidente la situazione», ma credo che si debba dire di più: che il concetto di "situazioneµ va inteso in senso forte, indicando non solo una funzione deittica del testo che suggerisca l'ambiente contestuale (fisico, mentale, relazionale), ma anche e soprattutto i grandi appuntamenti dell'esistenza, le verifiche dell'identità umana: è questa l'accezione del termine in Jean-Paul Sartre, che nella situazione vede appunto l'asse portante dell'esperienza teatrale. Inoltre, la tetralogia wagneriana è una delle pochissime opere - l'esempio più vicino è il Faust di Goethe, di cui costituisce, nell'Ottocento, il solo degno contraltare - che fanno coincidere la tragedia di un individuo (in questo caso il dio Wotan) con la tragedia del mondo.
br. Il nome di Mario Panizzardi appare citato nei lavori di molti studiosi della vita e delle opere di Wagner. Giornalista pubblicista, dedicò numerosi articoli al Maestro e ne scrisse una biografia in lingua italiana. Il suo Wagner in Italia si divide in due parti: la prima rivolta alle note biografiche e la seconda alle «pagine di storia musicale». In questo lavoro abbiamo deciso di riproporre il primo dei due studi, datato 1914 e dedicato alle notizie di stampo biografico, tratte non solo dall'autobiografia del Maestro, ma anche dalle testimonianze che l'autore raccoglie dai personaggi che ebbero a che fare con Wagner durante i suoi soggiorni in Italia. Ciò che risulta non sono solo le manifestazioni più celebri del suo lato di artista, ma anche gli aspetti della sua vita privata nel rapporto con famigliari e amici, che il Maestro non disdegnava di ravvisare anche in pasticceri e gondolieri, evitando scrupolosamente i pianisti. A tratti si profila una dolcezza nell'uomo che non è solita associare all'immagine del Maestro, mentre se ne ritrova tutta la rigorosità negli scritti da lui dedicati ai colleghi compositori italiani. Un volume, questo, che si pone lo scopo di avvicinare il lettore all'esperienza di Wagner nel Bel Paese, attraverso una serie di punti di vista complementari: dalla pura biografia alle testimonianze, dalle lettere agli scritti, dalle recensioni alla raccolta delle rappresentazioni complete delle sue opere; una materia tanto complessa che non sarebbero sufficienti migliaia di pagine per poterla esaurire, ma che qui trova un equilibrio puntuale per chi voglia indagare, tra racconti e fonti, la vita di un uomo che, nonostante siano trascorsi oltre cent'anni dalla sua morte, ancora riesce a dividere il pubblico tra wagneriani e antiwagneriani. Attraverso l'incontro epistolare di queste personalità, vicine e anche tra loro distanti, si giunge ancora una volta al cronòtopo Napoli; si tesse una tela di relazioni che sostengono anche la trama di un 'contesto di ricezione' della letteratura europea. Si ripercorrono i luoghi (fisici e ideali) di una rinascita culturale che in quella fine Ottocento si esprimeva in diverse forme, in un "girotondo delle Muse" sempre in dialogo tra loro, quando Napoli sembrava aprirsi alla (wagneriana) "seduzione dell'arte". L’Autrice del saggio ha preso in esame le lettere autografe di Salvatore Di Giacomo di Vittorio Pica a Rocco Pagliara. Inizialmente lettere di circostanza legate al loro lavoro; complimenti formali e poi con lo scorrere del tempo nasce l’amicizia e il tono cambia: lettere confidenziali, scherzose. Un’attenta e scrupolosa ricerca che fa di questo saggio un importante lettura dell’epoca.
