Original paper covered boards with a green spine and an illustration plate onlay to the upper board in dustwrapper. With four colour plates and further black and white illustrations by Florence Mary Anderson. A very good or better copy the binding square and firm the spine tips and corners lightly rubbed and bumped. The contents with faint offsetting to the endpapers a little spotting to the closed text-block edge and occasionally to the margins are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the rubbed nicked and toned original dustwrapper that has minor chipping to the head of the spine and a few closed tears to the edges. There is an illustration plate onlay to the front panel. Scarce in the dustwrapper. A collection of short fairy stories written by Dorothy Black the maiden name and pseudonym of Dorothy MacLeish a writer and journalist who was the niece of Frederick Delius. Beautifully and delicately illustrated by Florence Mary Anderson. Anderson had studied at the Glasgow School of Art and while her artistic style is unique and distinctive elements of the Art Nouveau style that 'Glasgow Girls' such as Jessie M. A very smart first UK edition of this vast collection of sandwich recipes from American journalist Florence Abigail Cowles. First UK edition being an abridged edition of Cowles' original work Seven Hundred Sandwiches which was published in the US in 1928. A revised and enlarged edition entitled One Thousand and One Sandwiches was published in 1936. Very scarce edition. A successful publication along with its counterparts with critics commenting favorably on the book's "almost limitless variety". Being a collection of five hundred sandwich recipes from meat egg and fish sandwiches to butters and salad additions. With chapters on fruit and nut sandwiches layered sandwiches novelty sandwiches open sandwiches and even cake sandwiches. Since publication Cowles' work has remained an important source of information regarding sandwich-making in this era. Her work is cited multiple times in The Oxford Encyclopedia of Food and Drink in America with historians using this material as a source regarding the early development of American sandwich varieties that are now widely prepared and eaten. Written by Florence Abigail Cowles an American journalist and cookbook author. In the original full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor wear to the extremities and light discolouration to the cloth. Fading to the spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Follow the adventures of Golliwogg and his old companions a group of Dutch peg dolls as they pedal their handcrafted bicycles across the globe. Their journey takes them through the streets of Paris beneath the iron arches of the Eiffel Tower and onward to Japan where they discover the thrill of riding in a rickshaw. The trip continues through Turkey across vast desert sands on camel back until a dramatic encounter with a tribe of cannibals brings their expedition to a most unexpected halt. Original hardback boards with green cloth spine. There is a touch of darkening to the boards and bumping to the corners but still an attractive copy. Gift inscription in pencil to the inside front board. The title page is moderately darkened. The rest of the book is clean with a few finger marks to some pages. There are a couple of very small closed tears to the edges not affecting text. Lovely full page and vignette illustrations. Curiously the copyright notice and date are printed on each full page illustration. 63 pages. 215 by 280mm 8½ by 11 inches. . Première édition. Un bel exemplaire de cette première édition rare. Dédicace au crayon sur la page de garde intérieure. La page de titre est modérément jaunie. Le reste du livre est en bon état avec quelques traces de doigts sur certaines pages. On note deux très petites déchirures fermées sur les bords qui n'affectent pas le texte. De ravissantes illustrations en pleine page et vignettes. There is only slight wear to the extremities with just slight bumping. The dustwrapper has rubbing with small closed tears and chips with discolouration. There is a price label to the spine panel.
