A Private press established by William Bernard Adeney and John Madden at South Park Reigate. The title to the book as it appears on the handsomely designed title page with wood block shields of the counties and principal towns is :- SVRREY AND SVSSEX FROM THE BRITANNIA OF WILLIAM CAMDEN TRANSLATED BY PHILEMON HOLLAND IN 1610 AND HERE REPRINTED IN THIS YEAR 1905. The text is the translation into Elizabethan English by Dr Philemon Holland in 1610 of Camden's Sixth Edition of "Britannia" which appeared in 1607.VG Book- Shelf wear rubbing and soiling to cloth sides and to leather at head of spine Plain Book plate of a previous owner to front and rear paste downs. Binding sound with a little ingression of dust/soiling to the edges of the book block due to uncut pages.No other notabel defects. Although not uncommon in the Camden's Britannia County Histories series published by Hutchinsons this Private press edition is a prize for collectors of books on Surrey and Sussex as the only other copy which can be found from a search of the internet at the time of listing is held at The University of Manchester Library.
