Complete two volume set. Half calf leather bindings with marbled boards. Spines with five raised bands morocco title and author labels gilt decoration to compartments. Marbled page edges and endpapers. Light rubbing to spines and corners of boards. Good solid bindings with no cracking to joints. Foxing to leading and trailing blanks a few occasional spots to text. Upper corner torn from p59/60 in Volume I appears to be an original production flaw - no loss of text. Gift inscription to verso of front free endpaper in both volumes dated 1855. Pasted to the leading blank in Volume I is an original letter to Lady Coltman handwritten and signed by Sydney Smith. Final page in Volume I and final two pages in Volume II have pasted newspaper articles relating to Smith with marking from the glue. Overall condition is Very Good. The concept of the Folio Society's Letterpress Shakespeare is that Shakespeare's text be magnificently printed from the latest "Oxford Shakespeare" edition under the general editorship of Stanley Wells in a fine large folio attractively bound in green half-goatskin with marbled-paper sides. The introduction and commentary are reserved to a separate specially-bound commentary volume so that the text-volume remains uncluttered and harmonious. The volume containing the original text comes hand-bound in green Nigerian goatskin leather. In a half leather binding. blocked in gold with hand-marbled paper sides. Gilded top edge and matching green ribbon page marker. Printed in 16 point 'Monotype' Baskerville with Caslon display Set in hot metal and printed by letterpress on Zerkall mould-made paper. The volume measures 10 X 14 inches. The commentary volume which includes the text of the play with full explanatory notes is bound in green buckram and measures 7.5 X 5.75 inches. Both volumes are housed in a Solander presentation box also bound in green buckram with a green leather gilt lettered title label. Measuring 15.25 X 11 X 2.75 inches. Number 772 of 3750 copies. The map mentions the Treaty of Peace between the US and Britain included the setting of the boundary between the two nations on the River Saint Croix. Samuel Johannes Holland was a Dutch-born Royal Engineer and first Surveyor General of British North America. James Wyld Senior 1790-1836 was a distinguished British mapmaker known for producing maps and globes. He served as Geographer to George IV and William IV. Map shows some offsetting. Some verso reinforcements along original folds. Minor spotting and edge wear dampstains and toning. Otherwise in good condition. This lovely map of is a fine example of his work.<br/> <br/> unknown
