A superb first edition of this well-known editorial cartoon collection subtitled "From Little Italy to the Pulitzer Prize" on the jacket front panel by the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1969 syndicated political cartoonist 1916-80 who delighted "Chicago Daily News" readers for many years before switching to the "Chicago Tribune" in 1978. Handsomely inscribed and signed by the cartoonist in the year of publication on the title page in blue ballpoint: "To Doris and Felix Popper / Who's Mom is a real doll! / -- My warmest good wishes to you both / -- John Fischetti -- " Felix Popper 1908-2000 was a conductor with the New York City Opera his wife Doris born 1924 an opera singer with that same company. A square tight copy with perfectly sound inner hinges. The book is bound in the original pebble-grain reddish-brown cloth. Gilt stamping on the spine is still bright. The front cover has a shallow groove or indentation not too obtrusive -- 1/8th inch wide 4.5 inches long cloth is not punctured. There is some light scattered foxing on the endpapers and on the edges of the text block. However all text pages are clean crisp and unmarked with NO foxing. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. NO owner's name or bookplate. This is the first appearance in print of David Zeisberger's dictionary of the Onondaga Iroquois and Delaware Algonquin languages. Previously it existed only as a manuscript in the Harvard College Library. The editor discovered it there and arranged publication. This is one of the copies as described by James Constantine Pilling which is "printed on larger and better paper." Pilling notes that the title page of these Large Paper copies omits two lines beginning "This edition has been published." just before the imprint. In all 48 volumes 24 are 4¼" x 2¾ and the minis are 4¼" x 5½" plus 4 others a bit larger; written illustrated and published by Carolyn Swiszcz much in color; printed by photocopier or offset all in chapbook form some stapled some in concertina format generally fine and contained in Swiszcz's hand-made boxes. Zebra Cat Zebra is a bi-monthly mail-order zine which according to OCLC began publication in May 2017 actually 2016 although Swiszcz notes that the series as such did not begin in earnest until 2017. As she writes on her website "The name is inspired by the author hearing her father spell their last name to people on the phone "Z as in 'zebra ' C as in 'cat ' Z as in 'zebra!' I write about childhood memories my neighborhood and other personal observations." This set ex-Jody Williams whose "Tiny Digest books partly inspired me to take up this series" is "complete except for the last 4 issues" email from Swiszcz 01/02/25. The spine ends corners and edges of the book covers have rubbing bumping fraying and chips missing. The covers have noticeable spots of ground-in dirt and generalized rubbing. The lettering on the spine has started to rub. The front inner hinge has cracked. The text pages are generally clean but the book could use a good restitching as sections are loose. The rear endpaper is missing. The first twenty pages or so have spots of foxing. "Afterwards she Yelverton led an itinerant life and supported herself by writing about her travels. Francis Farquhar wrote that she "spent the summer of 1870 in Yosemite where she attached herself to the Hutchings family and made eyes at John Muir.
