Information and history of the growth of railroads in the U.S. followed by information and history of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Last three panels offer a detailed description of the Pennsylvania Railroad's exhibit at the Century of Progress International Exposition. Starting in Detroit and ending in Quebec the book describes cities en route particular resorts and hotels: Mt. Clemens St.Clair Springs Port Huron Hotel Windermere and many more. 8 3/4 x 5 3/4" 100pp b&w ills staplebound. The brochure does focus on the storied ACL RR connections with Florida resorts in Palm Beach Palmetto the Lake Region Jacksonville Key West and nice section on the amenities found in Havana Cuba. Decorated with its’ splendid purple and silver livery with yellow trim the ACL RR was one of the most successful railroad operations from its original chartering as the Petersburg RR in 1830 through 1967 when it merged with Seabord Air Line RR. On the right side of the map are all the ports visited along with a brief sketch of each. 1916619Denver: The Colorado & Southern Railway Company 1916. 19 x 16 inches. Very good condition overall but for the map and rear cover are detached. This is the map to accompany the 1916 annual report of the Colorado & Southern Railway Company. It includes the jointly owned Triality & Brazos Valley Railway which runs from Houston to Dallas/Ft. Worth. The Colorado & Southern Railway runes from Orin Junction Wyoming to Dallas Ft. Worth with sidetracks in northern Colorado out to Leadville. The railway was important to the mines of Colorado and Wyoming as its connection into Houston assured that its ore was not landlocked. The railroads of the southern plains are shown in great detail. In Texas the railway is sidetracked to Spur and Abilene. This pre-WWI map is important for its depiction of the connection to the oceans of the world. The Colorado & Southern Railway Company unknown

This is the original 1893 printing of this 56 page illustrated booklet published and distributed by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. It vividly describes travel by train through the Rocky Mountains in the 1890s. Illlustrations accompany the text side trips to many different sights are described in much detail. An original publication not a recent reprint. There is some staining to the covers which is also faintly visible to some margins of text. Light chipping to the cover and spine pages mildly toned some staple rust the entire text is clean and sound. 1919101154<p>Upper Montclair New Jersey July 29 1919. 1919. Very good. - Over 190 words penned on 2 sides of folded 6-7/8 inch high by 10-3/4 inch wide "Oakwood Avenue Upper Montclair New Jersey" stationery. Luis Jackson the Erie Railroad Company's traffic extension commissioner writes to Otto Francis Boyer of the J.B. Pond Lyceum Bureau that he'd had grandiose dreams after talking with him "Referring to my last weeks visit to you about lecturing on the Railroad Situation; while in the building I saw your sign and visions of an auditorium with five thousand persons in it." But the reality was that Boyer was considering much smaller venues "I have fully considered the matter of talks at luncheons of Chambers of Commerces which would reimburse me only for my traveling expenses and have decided that it is not worth while." He does does remain open to speaking on Railroad or Export trade subjects if special occasions present themselves. Signed "Luis Jackson". The Pond Bureau's stamp indicating that they have answered the letter is stamped at top left and Jackson's name has been typed at both the top and bottom. There are stab holes along the left edge by which the letter was attached to an enclosed 4-page reprint of the Montclair Times August 24 1918 interview with Luis Jackson titled "Mr Jackson's Visit To South America: Being an Account of a Trip Covering a Period of Eight Months Through Brazil Uruguay Paraguay Argentina Chile Bolivia and Peru". The 13 inch high by 11 inch wide newspaper offprint reports on Jackson's railroad travels on behalf of the Erie Railroad Company. Folded with tears along the edges of the fold and several stab marks by which it was attached to the letter which have caused some loss to a few words. Very good together with a retained copy of the Pond Bureau's reply.</p><p>The Railroad man Luis Jackson 1856-1927 performed traffic work for western railroads. He organized the industrial department for the Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway in 1891 serving as industrial commissioner for that railway. Jackson then served as industrial commissioner for the Erie Railroad and subsequently as their Traffic Extension Commissioner. He was the author of the 1900 pamphlet "A Brief History of the Growth of the Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway: and of the Development of the Territory Through Which It Runs".</p> Upper Montclair, New Jersey, July 29, 1919.

191017192Southern Pacific Railroad. Good. 1910-1940. Hardcover. The ledgers are worn with tape reinforcing the spines. Misc. Inserted papers loose with dates from1906 to the 1944. Pages of blueprints of items to be made for the railroad signs etc. handwritten notes of lumber to be ordered for various projects. One ledger has the date 1916 written in the front on the fep. That volume is a "car inspector's record book". The listings give car numbers and condition or repairs; the dates run up to 1922. The second ledger is mostly empty with a lot of pretty boring blueprints inserted loose. In the back are loose pages of contracts for work with detailed decriptions and specifications written in a very neat hand. These pages are not dated but the pages themselves were printed in 1896 and there is a receipt tipped onto one page dated 1899. Not the most historically significant collection but should be pretty fun for an S. P. Fan. Sorry I don't have pictures. Sold as-is what-it-is. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
