189056902Great Western Railway 1890. Hardback. Good only hardback edgewear pages age-toned spine cracked over the top half of its length and cloth peeling but all intact and binding essentially firm but shaken. Large hardback volume bound in original brown cloth with gilt titles on spine. This volume contains the first 24 issues of what became an important historical source for the GWR. The issues are largely concerned with the health and welfare of the GWR employees in particular encouraging temperance. There are numerous illustrations including some views of places and locomotives but mainly portraits. This volume is a presentation copy signed by W J S Cox the General Secretary and Treasurer of the GWR. There is an 8 line ink presentation inscription to the recipient of the volume above the signature on a Great Western Railway headed memorandum pasted on to the inside of the front board. This makes this copy particularly interesting as a record of company practice at the time. The image on this listing page is of the actual book for sale. Great Western Railway hardcover
