Very good with some foxing to the flaps and and chipping to the tops of the wraps. Contains an ALS 14 lines on Coombs's stationery dated 1967 from Coombs to Georgia artist Norman S. Rothschild who based on the warm correspondence must have been a good friend. Envelope that contained the letter is taped to the verso of the title page. A highly desirable association copy. Stato di conservazione: lievi abrasioni sui margini delle belle coperte d'epoca, un'etichetta in carta incollata sul margine superiore del dorso del tomo primo, entrambi i tomi presentano un numero scritto a penna sul margine superiore del frontespizio (un'indicazione di vecchio proprietario?), segni a matita (volendo facilmente cancellabili) a fianco di alcuni paragrafi, una piccola mancanza sul bordo bianco verticale del foglio che contiene le due pagine 217-218 del volume primo, un segno a penna sul margine di pag. 265 del tomo primo (per evidenziare un paragrafo), appunti a matita sul retro della grande carta geografica posta in appendice al primo volume ma, nel complesso, due buoni esemplari. Primi due tomi dell'opera di Ch. De Franqueville che riguarda l'insieme dei lavori pubblici in Gran Bretagna. Nei due volumi posti in vendita è interamente trattato ed esaurito l'argomento ferrovie, treni e tramway (tema dell'intero primo volume e di buona parte del secondo). Il secondo volume, oltre a completare l'argomento delle ferrovie, contiene altre due parti: una relativa alle "voies de terre" ed una dedicata alla navigazione. L'opera tratta il tema dei treni, in maniera decisamente dettagliata, affrontando vari aspetti: storici, economici, giuridici e costruttivi. Molte le curiosità di carattere storico tra cui segnaliamo, ad esempio, le tariffe di andata e ritorno dalle principali località sulle varie linee nei vari anni di storia del treno (sia per i viaggiatori che per i bagagli, ...), i tempi di percorso,... Molto fresche e ben conservate le carte geografiche fuori testo. In appendice al tomo primo è presente, più volte piegata su se stessa, la grande "Carte de chemins de fer de l'Angleterre" del 1874, con le varie linee riportate a colori. Dimensioni: 40,5 x 49 cm circa. nel tomo secondo sono presenti, fuori testo, due carte a colori, più volte piegate su se stesse: "Carte des chemind de fer de l'Ecosse" del 1874 e "Carte des chemins de fer de l'Irlande" del 1874. Importante e dettagliata opera di un francese riguardante lo sviluppo della ferrovia in Gran Bretagna (paese precursore del trasporto ferroviario), probabilmente pensata come esempio per un analogo sviluppo in Francia. Edizione ottocentesca piuttosto difficile da reperire.
