Incisione su rame di Christoph Weigel tratta dal Comfortable School and Travel Atlas di Johann David Köhler, del 1718. 8vo., First Edition thus, with 49 plates on 16, several maps and charts in the text and endpaper maps; handsomely bound in full dark green crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, an elegant copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. The standard account from the Japanese perspective and a classic of WWII. One of the foremost figures in the IJNAF, Mitsuo Fuchida was strike force commander at Pearl Harbor. Unable to take part in operations at Midway due to a recent appendix operation he watched the action from the deck of the flagship, taking notes as events unfolded. Subsequently, he was one of the few Japanese naval officers permitted to study the reports of the battle and is therefore uniquely qualified to deliver this account. For the first US edition (published for USNI) the Japanese original was translated into English by Commander Chihaya and edited by Kawakami and Pineau; their text is repeated here. Importantly, the Japanese photographs (although of poorer quality) are retained, and supplemented by a small number of well-chosen USN pictures. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. Albion, p.297; Enser, p. 515.
8vo., First Edition thus, with 11 plates on 8 and an illustration in the text; handsomely bound in full navy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. The truly remarkable story of a unique vessel - a largely Free French Q-ship enrolled wholesale into the Royal Navy and eventually sunk in the Atlantic in December 1942. This account is based largely on facts provided by Pat O'Leary who survived the sinking to organise the 'Pat' escape routes from France. First published in France in the preceding year. An elegant copy. Enser, p.381; Law, 0861.
8vo., First Edition, with portrait frontispiece and 8 plates on 6; handsomely bound in full navy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled with gilt anchor, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, a most attractive copy ideal as gift or for presentation. The first collected edition of Monsarrat's well-known trilogy. The three constituent volumes - 'HM Corvette' (1942), 'East Coast Corvette' (1943) and 'Corvette Command' (1944) - are here reproduced in their entirety (but with fewer plates). Taken in sequence they provide a near-continuous record of Monsarrat's early wartime service; furthermore they contain much of the inspiration and context, and in several cases actual incidents, which reappear in his masterpiece 'The Cruel Sea'. The first edition is now very scarce in any condition. Enser, p.120; Law 1010.
8vo., Second Edition, with portrait frontispiece and 8 plates on 6; handsomely bound in full navy crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt with anchor motif, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. The collected edition of Monsarrat's well-known trilogy, first published in October 1945. This second edition carries a new Preface by the author giving an account of the works' genesis. Enser, p.120; Law 1010 (both recording the first edition).

Elegante incisione all’acquaforte che mostra due galeazze. Esemplare tratto dall’ Atlante Veneto, Nel quale si contiene la Descrittione Geografica, Storica, Sacra, Profana e Politica degli Imperi, Regni, Provincie, e Santi dell’Universo […] In Venetia MDCXC. Bibliografia Ermanno Armao, Vincenzo Coronelli (Firenze, 1944), nn.59-60, p.237. Etching engraving showing two galleys. Example taken form Coronelli’s Atlante Veneto, Nel quale si contiene la Descrittione Geografica, Storica, Sacra, Profana e Politica degli Imperi, Regni, Provincie, e Santi dell’Universo […] In Venetia MDCXC. Coronelli lived a period of extraordinary editorial fecundity starting from 1689, when he had the chair of geography at the University at the Procuratie, with the publication, in 1690, of the first volume of the Atlante Veneto. Under the name of Atlante Veneto goes the entire collection of thirteen works composed over the next decade, from the Isolario to the Specchio del mare. The work was intended as an extension of Blaeu’s Atlas Maior. It is no mere collection of maps, but rather “a compendium of geographical, cosmographical, and scientific information... on contemporary Italian science and geography” (Scammell). As well as maps, the first volume includes several of Coronelli’s celebrated naval plates, many with the separately-printed “Farnese” borders especially commissioned by Coronelli’s patron, Ranuccio II Farnese, Duke of Parma. Copperplate, with full margins, very good condition. Very rare. Literature Ermanno Armao, Vincenzo Coronelli (Florence, 1944), no.59, no.60 and p.237.

E’ presente elenco nominativo dello Stato Maggiore. Rarissimo.
