1942313964New York 1942. 1p. on Sergievsky's personal letterhead. 8vo. Old folds lower right hand corner chipped not affecting text or signature otherwise a fine letter with a bold clear signature. 1p. on Sergievsky's personal letterhead. 8vo. A letter written by the renowned Russian ace and world record setting Sikorsky test pilot on behalf of Danish-born ballet and Broadway dancer Paul Haakon considered by many to be one of greatest ballet dancers of the 20th century. <br /> <br /> Reading in part: "I have known Paul Haakon Longreen for over sixteen years. In the theatrical profession he is known under the name of Paul Haakon. It is very well known that he is one of the best dancers in the world. He gave up his dancing recently to become a flying instructor purely to serve his country. I sincerely believe that anything which could be done to facilitate his joining the United States Army Air Force reserve would benefit our war effort."<br /> <br /> Despite Sergievsky's recommendation in our letter it seems Haakon never became a combat pilot during WWII and instead toured as an entertainer with the United Service Organizations. He died in New York in 1992. unknown

Oram who raised funds for humanitarian and conservation groups the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh writes with his suggestions for the World Wildlife Fund's membership drive and letter. "Before I send out another 'conservation' letter I would like to have a definite understanding of how replies are to be acknowledged by WWF." "In regard to the brochure enclosed with letters such as this I wonder if it should contain some sort of WWF membership application -- the five-dollar type of thing." He goes on to suggest the possibility that "Membership involves an automatic payment each year whereas the present contribution form brochure I am looking at enclosed casts the contributor loose after his check is sent and requires new bait for a new bite in another year." He concludes by saying that while he likes the present brochure he suggests emphasizing the blue whale in the next one. Signed "Charles". In later life he became heavily involved in humanitarian and conservation movements and campaigned to protect endangered species and as well as protecting the way of life for native tribes in the Philippines and Africa. Lindbergh's essays introduced millions to the conservation cause.</p><p>Harold L. In his role with Grace he was a pioneer in commercial aviation in South America being instrumental in the establishment of Panagra Pan American Grace Airways which flew the first U.S. certified route to Buenos Aires by way of South America's West Coast.</p> Delray Beach, Florida, April 16, 1957.
197335021Washington DC: January 12th 1973. 1973. Fine. - 100 words typed on a cream-colored 10-1/2 inch high by 9 inch wide sheet of "Department of the Air Force Office of the Chief of Staff" letterhead with the address and the Department of Defense seal printed in blue at the top. Signed "H. M. Wade". The bottom right corner is lightly bumped. Folded twice for mailing. Near fine. <p>Wade replies to a letter from Congressman Seymour Halpern soliciting his personal thoughts on achieving a lasting world peace. Wade assures Halpern of his desire for a just and lasting world peace "however although your request was for my personal 'views or formulas' any comments by me on this critically important subject through other than official channels would be highly inappropriate."<p>Horace Milton Wade 1916-2001 saw active service in World War II and the Vietnam War. In 1968 he was designated commander in chief United States Air Forces in Europe and was promoted to general. The following year he was appointed chief of staff Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe and in 1972 he became Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force--the post he held when this letter was written.<p>The Queens New York Republican Congressman Seymour Halpern 1913-1997 started his political career as a campaign aide to New York's powerful mayor Fiorella La Guardia and first served in New York's State Senate for 14 years before seeking a seat in the U.S. Congress. In Albany Halpern sponsored 279 bills that became law including measures on schools housing civil rights nutrition and mental health. A Liberal he was something of an anomaly as the lone Republican representative from New York City and generally garnered support from Labor Unions and endorsement from the Liberal Party. Yet he never even considered switching parties as he considered membership in the Republican Party a family tradition and commitment. While he found ample time for his private pursuits including painting and collecting autographs he took his legislative duties very seriously. Of these he was proudest of his co-sponsorship of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and of the original 1965 Medicare legislation. Washington, DC: January 12th, 1973. unknown

Kelly Field in Texas was one of the Army Air Service’s primary fields for training and deploying pilots during World War I. After the massive demobilization at the end of the War the Kelly Field and Chanute Field in Illinois served as essential training grounds for Army pilots to exhibit their skills holding air races balloon races and training technicians. All technical schools were joined with the mechanics school at Chanute Field in 1922 and were re-designated the Air Corps Technical School by 1924. These excellent photographs not only include detailed shots of the barracks the radio towers the equipment rooms servicemen and more but also encompass a vast array of the aircraft which flew in and out of these fields along with many aerial shots. There are photos of German Fokker triplanes French Spads Curtiss DH-4s many of the Barling Bomber the Witteman-Lewis XNBL-1 an experimental long-range three-wing strategic bomber which proved massively unwieldy because it was too underpowered with its six engines a colour-tinted image of the USS Los Angeles Zeppelin and several other lighter-than-air balloons and airships as well. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Much has been said and written about the Tu-95 known as the Bear which to some is the personification of the tell-tale Soviet threat. In recent months the Tu-95 has been the source of great anxiety for the US with operational exercises coming close to American borders causing much consternation and raising eyebrows in the political world. This informative new history explores the final chapter of the Tu-95 which has not been covered by other volumes. Containing a lot of hitherto untold facts and shedding new light on the Tu-95's development history and service career it is certain to be extremely popular. Also included in this title are details of crucial target information and rare materials obtained in the course of many obscure missions. In recent times the type has again assumed a significant position in Russia's strategic bomber arm DA and the fleet is being upgraded to take new models of cruise missiles. Beautifully illustrated throughout with numerous photos from the latest exercises as well as vivid pictures of nose art and unit insignia this is one not to be missed by aviation enthusiasts particularly those with an interest in contemporary Russian aviation.
