Black vinyl 3-ring binder gilt lettering & embossed label on spine minor scuffing edgwear closed tear to front joint some thumbing toning and agewear throughout still a VG- exemplar. First edition thus of this complete version of the Lockheed L-188 Electra airliner flight manual as of 1969 when the large turboprop airliner began being phased out by most American air carriers. The L-188 Electra survived 3 crashes immediately after introduction including a NW Orient Airlines version and the FAA discovered that the Electras had suffered from Propellor whirl-mode vibration matching the flutter frequency of the wing in less than one minute but the wings and fasteners were modified to correct the issue. This flight manual examines and outlines Emergency Procedures Cruise Power operating procedures Engine Failures Instrument Memory Communications Oil Systems Fuel Systems revisions from 1959-1969 with supplemental updates inserted at various points within the Manual. First editions of these scarce in-house illustrated magazines for the Consolidated Aircraft Corporation based in San Diego CA. The articles not only deal with social issues changes during the Great Depression and women in the Consolidated work force but also touch on Company flying clubs athletic teams obituaries and more. These magazines include many illustrations and ads for San Diego CA businesses and a number of articles touching on the PBY-1 Catalina aircraft which was one of the most successful flying boats. Of particular interest are the articles detailing the squadron of PBY-1 Catalinas flown by Patrol Squadron 11-F from the Naval Air Station in San Diego on a shakedown flight to Hawaii and then back. The PBY Catalinas proved to be incredibly successful aircraft including long “wet†wings waist gun positions during World War II and very popular with British and Canadian flight crews.
