Volumes 1 & 2. Name to front end paper of Vol 2. No other marks or inscriptions. Two very clean very tight copies with bright unmarked boards, foxing to top of page edges of Vol 2 and no bumping to corners. Dust jackets not price clipped or marked. Both jackets a little sunned with very slight rubbing to edges. Small tears to lower front and rear edges of Vol 1 and slightly larger tear to upper front edge of Vol 1. Total of 539pp. Volume 1 describes the environment of the sea, positions and sea surveying operations. Volume 2 contains the illustrations referred to in the first volume.

El 5 de Noviembre de 1891, harto de casi todo, Peral se vió forzado a licenciarse de la Marina. Intentó explicar esta radical decisión en un "Manifiesto". Se lo impidieron por todos los medios y tuvo que publicarlo, costeándolo de su propio bolsillo, en un periódico satírico llamado "El Matute". El autor de ésta biografía reivindicativa de su figura científico-técnica y humana, León Villanúa, mordaz marino mercante riojano, intentó publicarla en la Colección de Vidas Españolas e Hispaoamericanas del Siglo XIX, de Espasa Calpe, pero el Director entónces de dicha Colección, Don Melchor Férnandez Almagro, se opuso a ello "porque le sentó mal que yo llamase a las cosas por su nombre y a los políticos andaluces por sus canalladas". Lo cierto es que Villanúa, traductor de Trotski y viajero en la URSS, no sólo arremete contra los andaluces, sino tambien los vizcainos y catalanes, junto a los burócratas madrileños "chupatintas y demás gentuza ignorante, religiosa, necia, beoda y antiespañola. Y que nadie se ofenda, que lo digo por todos".
