18870082231887. Very Good . 1 printed commission form naming Joseph H. LeFevre a notary public dated 30 March 1887 and signed by Gov. James A. Beaver and Charles W. Stone Secretary of Pennsylvania. the form is filled in in an attractive hand with a large gilt seal of Pennsylvania. Attached is a small form indicating that it was recorded in Adams Co. on 1 April 1887 with a smaller gilt seal of the Adams Co. Recorder's Office and the signature of the county recorder I. S. Stonesifer. Israel S. Stonesifer 1839-1928 served in the 165th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. In addition to serving as county recorder he was assistant superintendent of Gettysburg National Military Park. James A. Beaver 1837-1914 served during the Civil War as lt. col. of the 45th Pa. volunteers and then as colonel of the 148th Pa. volunteers being wounded several times and eventually losing a leg. He served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1887 to 1891 and from 1895 to his death in 1914 sat on the state Superior Court. Charles W. Stone 1843-1912 was in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives 1870-1871; in the Pennsylvania State Senate 1877-1878; Lieut. Gov. 1879-1883; and was secretary of Pennsylvania 1887-1890 when he was elected to represent the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Very Good Condition: upper edge slightly rubbed and just starting to separate at folds; otherwise clean and solid. unknown

Every leaf of text is interleaves with a blank leaf for notes; in this volume the blank leaves remained blank. Former owner's inscription on front fixed endpaper: Warren G. Light Lebanon Pa. "Warren G. Light" is also written at head of the title page. Stamped on front free endpaper: "Meyer Brubaker & Lewis Law Offices Lebanon Pennsylvania." This was probably Alvin B. Lews esq. a grandson of Warren G. Light esq. of Lebanon Pa. Tipped onto the back free endpaper is a printed leaf with Uniform Rates recommended by the Commercial Law League of America at its 23rd Annual Convention in 1917. With loose: printed slip with from the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania with amendments to rules and the order to establish a Board of Law Examiners all dated 1902; and the carbon from the Court of Common Pleas of Lebanon County replacing rule 24 dated 1961. The Roll of Attorneys lists everyone admitted to practice in Lebanon County from 1813 through July 1895 with dates of death where relevant. An extremely scarce 19th-century Pennsylvania legal work. In Very Good Condition: rebacked as described; modern sensitive repair to corners and hinges; clean and tight. s.n. hardcover

Frontispiece is an elevation of the garden front of a stable of Fairman Rogers Philadelphia. First edition. The author Robert McClure was a veterinarian from Scotland who settled in Philadelphia and taught at the first veterinary institution in the United States the Veterinary College of Philadelphia. That institution received a charter from the Pennsylvania legislature in 1852 although its founders struggled for some years to establish a school which ceased to exist after 1866. In 1877 McClure was convicted of selling diplomas from the now defunct veterinary college for which he was fined $200 and imprisoned for nine months. In Very Good Condition: corners very lightly rubbed; lower corner of back board discolored; pages are clean and tight. Porter & Coates hardcover
