At head of title: "Supreme Court Eastern District of Pennsylvania. July 1847 No. 40." William M. Kennedy claimed that his property running from Maiden St. to the adjacent wharf in the Kensington District of the Northern Liberties at the time not part of the city of Philadelphia included half of the street and the wharf itself. Elihu Duplessis Tarr d. 1851 and John Meredith Read 1797-1874 represented Samuel Tucker Bodine 1810-1879 and the commissioners and residents of Kensington offering the history of the property back to the orignal 1689 grant to Michael Neilson and through its ownership by William Masters and his descendants to show that both the street and the wharf had been public property. Signed by witnesses George Prise and David Kinehart justice of the peace for Chester County John Hiester Jr. recorder Charles Kenny and Rudolph Stauffer and Beata Stauffer Rudolph's name is in German script while Beata's is not. In Near Fine- Condition: light soiling and discoloration; otherwise clean and bright. An attractive early 19th-century vellum deed. unknown

1876004112Philadelphia: Pomeroy Whitman and Company 1876. Very Good . 1 double-leaf print from the 1876 Atlas of York County Pa. Signed "Ray Del." Contains an aerial view of the ironworks with inset illustrations showing sections of the house front department and the machine shop as well as several close-ups of machinery. Also shows a steam locomotive on the train tracks running in front of the ironworks. The ironworks was located on W. North Street in York. The company was founded in 1840 by Elisha Geiger and Samuel Bechtol; other partners during the 19th century included Alexander Small Edward G. Smyser and Smyser's sons. "E.G. Smyser" appears over the central door in the print with "Variety Iron Works" above that. In 1877 it opened an office in Baltimore where much of the ornamental ironwork was sold. The company also produced iron castings for J.W. Fiske Co. in New York City beginning in 1869. The company continued to operate until 1941. As of 2013 the central building was being used by the York Academy Revinoal Charter School. In Very Good Condition: slight staining along edges not impacting the image; solid and otherwise clean. Covers are worn cover edges and corners show heavy wear some soil; endpapers browned with some markings; most inner pages clean. This edition was "annotated" by the previous owner with notes and pasted-in information throughout - all concerning the edition illustrations and information containted within. This book was limited to 50 copies; it is illustrated throughout with full-page steel engraving plates. Additionally this copy was the former property of author William Stone. Stone's bookplate appears on the front inner board and pasted down to the front endpaper is a letter to Stone from the book's author Jeptha Simms dated Sept. 26 1881. Simms is writing Stone to tell him of a new book he's working on another history of New York and offering to get one of Stone's books into the hands of some people in Fort Plain. The letter appears to have torn at one of the folds and a previous owner has repaired it with tape. 297 pages including index; approx. 6"x9". Signed by Author. Limited. Hard Cover. Octavo single issue printed wrappers. Features the first publication of the classic tale "The Wondersmith." This story is considered an early robot story. A toyshop owner plans to massacre thousands on the Christmas holiday by supernaturally animated small toy soldiers dolls and animals with small poisoned blades. This story influenced other writers and can be seen today in popular film such as Chuckie and others. Jessica Amanda Salmonson writes in her introduction to O'Brien's works ".O'Brien is the most important figure after Poe and before Lovecraft in modern horror literature. Robert Emmet Monaghan 1822-1895 was a Pennsylvania lawyer and represented Chester County in the state legislature. His mechanical vote counter was patented on March 14 1848. This pamphlet reports on the demonstration of the machine given to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1849. Ink notations on p. 3 correct the description of the levers indicating Yea and Nay votes.
