Josselyn commanded INTREPID (1939-1942), CARADOC (1942-1943), and HAWKINS (from 1943). It was whilst in command of INTREPID that he took part (together with INGLEFIELD and IVANHOE) in the sinking of U-45 by depth charge off the south-west coast of Ireland in October 1939. Publisher's brown cloth with gilt-stamped spine title and decoration; blind-stamped decoration on both boards. Dark brown endpapers. Frontispiece is an elevation of the garden front of a stable of Fairman Rogers Philadelphia. First edition. The author Robert McClure was a veterinarian from Scotland who settled in Philadelphia and taught at the first veterinary institution in the United States the Veterinary College of Philadelphia. That institution received a charter from the Pennsylvania legislature in 1852 although its founders struggled for some years to establish a school which ceased to exist after 1866. In 1877 McClure was convicted of selling diplomas from the now defunct veterinary college for which he was fined $200 and imprisoned for nine months. Pages are clean and unmarked although the paper is a little age-darkened. This appears to be a research paper for a Spring 1975 course in Historical Archaeology at William Paterson College prepared for Edward J. Lenik. This is copy #11. The subject is Garretson Forge and Farm one of the oldest sites in Bergen County New Jersey. The site is located on River Road along a old Indian trail near Broadway in Slooterdam now known as Fairlawn New Jersey. The main house is pre-revolutionary war sandstone and is officially listed on the New Jersey State and United States National Register of Historic Places. Representative of an early Dutch colonial home and farmstead it is the only site of its kind in Bergen County and almost unique in all of New Jersey. This paper gives a history of Garretson Forge and Farm the early genealogy of the Garretson family a general site description and sections describing in detail the main house the out-buildings small chicken coop outhouse large chicken coop barn small shed wagon house and artifacts uncovered during the course of the author's survey. Illustrations include a map over two dozen full-page drawings of the various buildings and a sketch of Mary Garrison's tombstone. Bibliographical references. . First Edition presumed.
