Bel volume in-8° grande (cm. 25,7x16,5), pp. XXXII, 538, (2). Lussuosa LEGATURA in mezza pelle coeva, originali grandi fregi e titoli oro al dorso, insignificanti abrasioni a cuffie e cerniere. Testo su 2 colonne. Opera del tutto a sé stante e contenente (oltre alla biogr. del Maffei scritta da Pier Antonio SERASSI) i celebri 16 libri dell'opera maggiore, sull'INDIA, uscita nel 1588, e inoltre "Scelta di LETTERE scritte dell'INDIA fatte latine dal Rev. P. Pietro MAFFEI e recate in volgare per Messer Francesco SERDONATI fiorentino". Seguiva un 2° vol., segnalato nell'occhiello, "Le vite de' diciassette Confessori di Cristo", che NON abbiamo. Dal 1564 il bergamasco MAFFEI fu segretario della Repubblica di GENOVA; nel 1566 fu a Roma e si fece gesuita, "seppe perfettamente lo spagnolo ed il giapponese". Riferisce vicende anche militari, spesso impressionanti ed efferate. Eccellente esemplare in lussuosa legatura coeva.

La carta vergata azzurra è stata fabbricata appositamente alla forma tonda nelle Cartiere Miliani di Fabriano. Tiratura di 3000 esemplari (es. n. 892). Ottimo stato di conservazione.

Edizione del 1769 di questa celebre opera che conobbe diversi edizioni in tutto il XVIII secolo. Si tratta di una raccolta di aforismi morali raccolti dal libraio Robert Dodsley (1703-1764) sulla base di un antico manoscritto indiano di un bramino. In discrete condizioni ma completo. Copertina in piena pelle coeva con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso in discrete condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Rotture alle cerniere: piatto anteriore quasi staccato, posteriore restaurato. Legatura in buone condizioni. Pagine in buone condizioni con fioriture. In 24. Dim. 13,5x8,5 cm. Pp. XV+(1)+54+(6)+92Edition of 1769 of this famous work which was edited different times during the whole 18th century. It is a colelction of moral aphorisms collected by the librarian Robert Dodsley (1703-1764) based on an antique indian manuscript by a bramin. In fair conditions but complete. Full leather coeval cover with golden title and decorations in the spine slightly worn in the edges and spine. Cracks in the hidges: front plate almost detached, back plate restores. Formé par le cours de Bréal aux études de grammaire comparée, Abel Bergaigne (1838-1888) poursuivit les travaux de son maître Hauvette-Besnault. Elu à l'Institut en 1885, il devient titulaire de la chaire de sanscrit et de grammaire comparée créée à la Sorbonne la même année. De son "Manuel pour étudier la langue sanscrite" publié en 1884, Adolphe Regnier écrivait : "On y reconnaît le maître instruit et zélé, son livre vaut ses leçons". Bon état (rel. très lég. frottée). Approfondita opera sul colonialismo, che fa la storia delle diverse amministrazioni inglesi succedutesi nell'arco di oltre 100 anni in India, sino alle rivolte del 1857-58. Edizione originale. Cfr. CLIO,II, p. 1321. Nel primo volume manca il frontespizio; macchie e pesanti tracce d’uso solo sulle prime 2 carte (1 con anche mancanza marginali). Con lievi fioriture, peraltro ben conservato (slightly foxed, otherwise good condition).
