La filosofia ha sempre incontrato queste domande, ma le ha spesso aggirate, concependo il suo linguaggio come un semplice strumento, trasposizione di qualcosa già pensato e posseduto in modo chiaro e distinto. Maurice Merleau-Ponty ci ha mostrato invece una filosofia che mette in questione il suo essere scrittura, che ragiona attraverso la letteratura e usa consapevolmente formulazioni letterarie per tentare di rendere la vitalità dei fenomeni e l'esperienza delle «cose stesse». Con Merleau-Ponty non solo la riflessione intorno all'espressione - da intendere come cifra dell'avventura umana e forma di comunicazione che lega esseri e cose - si impone con tutta la sua forza, ma lo stesso testo filosofico è costretto a spingersi ai suoi limiti, per dire la nostra commistione con il mondo ed esibire il carattere produttivo e intimamente sociale della parola. Così, esplorando il rapporto fra la filosofia e la dimensione letteraria in Merleau-Ponty, analizzando le figure che utilizza e cercando di individuare una sua particolare retorica, facendo leva sui suoi testi meno conosciuti, postumi, inediti e sui più recenti studi critici, questo lavoro non si propone solo di gettare un nuovo sguardo su uno dei pensieri più affascinanti del Novecento, ma anche di riprendere il suo sforzo per esplorare il rapporto fra scrittura e filosofia nelle sue profonde implicazioni ontologiche e politiche, per arrivare a pensare nuove istituzioni dell'essere sociale. Antiporta xilografica in tinta monocroma azzurra disegnata e incisa da Maurice Denis, cui si debbono anche una testatina, un capolettera e un finaletto figurati in xilografia a tinta azzurra. Ex-libris Guelfo Sitta. Perfetto esemplare. Edizione originale, tirata a 350 esemplari numerati su "vergé à la forme d'Arches" (esemplare privo di numerazione e ad personam, dedicato a Paul Poujaud; alla giustificazione finale di tiratura è apposta, manoscritta, la dedicatoria dell'esemplare). Dell'opera esistono anche due tirature di testa, una di 9 esemplari "sur papier a la forme du Japon" e una di 35 "sur papier impérial du Japon". Il volume fu impresso per il testo da Studium e per le xilografie da Jacques Beltrand. Poema claudeliano ispirato alle estasi di Santa Teresa. Il dedicatario dell'esemplare, Paul Poujaud (Guéret, 1856-Valette, 1936), fu avvocato, letterato e melomane, amico e corrispondente di compositori come Chausson, Vincent d'Indy, Ravel, Dukas.
