1973211667Paris: Maeght Editeur 1973. Hardbound. VG. 5 volumes in custom designed coarse wover coth ring binders each with a different coloring of an original design by Braque. Pagination for each volume varies. Text in French. Included are five volumes lacks the Volume 1 covering 1916-1923. Vol. 2 1968: 1924-1927; Vol. 3 1962: 1928-1933; Vol. 4 1961: 1934-1941; Vol. 5 1960: 1942-1947; Vol. 6 1959: 1948-1957. The pictures are arranged chronologically by year in each volume. These books can be problematic in that the three-ring binder format allowed for the inclusion of periodic updates. This is problematic because it is near impossible to tell if all updates have been included since the pages are not always numbered. A beautiful and bright set well-cared for by it's previous owner. Rare as a set of six volumes. A seventh volume 1907-1914 was published in 1982. Maeght Editeur hardcover

13723Paris : Exposition Universelle 1900. Lithograph on tinted paper laid down on board as issued; circular format diameter 400 mm; a couple of surface marks and tiny amounts of paper loss at the right edge otherwise fine; mounted in a glazed frame. A striking souvenir ""poster"" produced for the Exposition Universelle held in Paris between April and November 1900. The design is based on an image from the groundbreaking film by Georges Méliès La lune à un mètre 1898 more famously known by its alternative title Le rêve d'un astronome The Astronomer's dream. It was used to advertise one of the most popular attractions at the exhibition a powerful telescope known as La grande lunette. Constructed specifically for the exhibition by Paul Gautier the telescope was the centrepiece of the Palais d'Optique and was advertised under the rubrique La lune à un mètre The moon from a distance of one metre. With the aid of this telescope views of the moon's surface were displayed on a giant screen; these images were produced by the astronomers Maurice Loewy and Pierre Henri Puiseux as a series of large photographs which were printed for the public in stereoscopic and carte de visite format. The Exposition Universelle which received 50 million visitors was a showcase for the technology of the present and future. This poster celebrates marvellous advancements in both science La grande lunette was the world's largest refracting telescope and the arts by drawing its design from the most recent of inventions the motion picture. unknown
1811172418Paris: Esnault 1811. Paris at the height of Napoleonic rule Rare iteration of this attractive map untraced institutionally originally published in 1782; all early versions are scarce. The nascent Rue de Rivoli is shown laid out in the year of publication confined to the north side of the Tuileries. Also constructed in 1811 was the rue de Castiglione connecting the rue de Rivoli with the Place Vendôme and the passage Montesquieu one of the new arcades dry and well lit where Parisians could shelter from the weather and loiter at shops and cafes. 51-6925Paris: 1859. Oblong folio .49 x 33cm. Original fabric covers with new goatskin spine. Seven leaves of mounted photographs of the Cabinet de Travail; Salons bleu rose& vert and the Messe Rouge. 4 signed in pencil on the mounts by the artist.Victor-François-Eloi Biennourry a French painter and sculptor created trompe-l'oeil cameos for the Palais des Tuileries. The cameos were part of the artwork "Allegory of French Sculpture" located in the palace. Biennourry who lived from 1823 to 1893 also worked on other projects including murals in the Church of Saint-Séverin.In 1842 after three years at the Ecole des Beaux-Art under Martin Drolling the history and portrait painter Biennourry won the Prix de Rome. He was very much in fashion during the Second Empire and decorated the Salon rouge Salon bleu and Salon vert in the Tuileries Palace as well as the apartments of the Empress Eugénie and the library of Napoleon III. He also painted many portraits and received commissions for several churches in Paris including Saint-Roch Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul de Saint-Séverin and Saint-Eustache. The present drawing is preparatory for Les Oeuvres de Misericorde Les Vertus in Saint-Eustache painted in 1854. In 1864 Biennourry executed a ceiling for Saint-Etienne-du-Monde. Later he decorated the Galleries des Antiques in the Louvre. Paris: 1859 unknown
