The work contains 12 texts by different authors whose titles are sufficiently significant in their irreverent character one will note several Disputatio but on cucurbits or the right to jest. The text is written in Latin and not in the vernacular making it a violent satire against the learned and the church which was not mistaken when it placed the book in its index of forbidden books. It contains in particular the De administrando imperio which despite a general title at the date of 1617 wears the colophon date of printing of 1611. This text known thanks to manuscripts had never been printed before. Contemporary binding in full vellum red speckled lapel smooth back with a title pen all slices flecked with red. Several red underlines and marginal handwritten annotations of the time. In line with the great works of princely education Constantine dedicated this book to his son Roman II. The emperor deals mainly with the diplomatic relations of the Empire with his neighbors and explains to his heir how to manipulate the enemies so that they neutralize each other. Constantin also evokes in this work the famous Greek fire enjoining Romain II to never reveal the secrets carefully guarded of its manufacture. Copy of Colbert presenting at the front of the front page the ex-libris of his library handwritten by his librarian Etienne Baluze. Like his patron Cardinal Mazarin Colbert brings together one of the most important and beautiful libraries in France that he never stopped enriching until the end of his life. Bibliomane before the hour he mandated numerous correspondents charged to unearth the works not only in province but across all Europe. Two months after the death of Jean-Baptiste Colbert in 1683 his family commissioned an inventory of the books in his library made up of more than 20000 printed volumes and more than 8000 ancient manuscripts. Our book appears in the catalog of the sale of the library of Colbert 1728 under the number 16211. Nice copy of this book that belonged to the prestigious Colbertine library. This "Archdiocese of Zaragoza" ecclesiastical map of this region of Spain was owned by bestselling historical novelist KENNETH ROBERTS 1885-1957 author of "Northwest Passage" among other titles who had a sizable map collection. In the lower left corner he inscribes this map shortly before his death "For Robert Oldmixon with the / best wishes of Kenneth Roberts 1957 / Done by / Blaeu / 1665 / Amsterdam." The map has been beautifully and archivally double matted using 100% acid-free materials and framed under UV-filtering conservation glass overall size 29" X 24". Blaeu unknown

Smooth spine. Title in faded red ink. Rolland Le Vayer de Boutigny 1627-1685 was Master of Requests to Louis XIV and one of his influential advisors. Author of novels plays and short stories as well as political and legal treatises this book reveals that Boutigny was trained as a jurist. Peculatus designates the theft of public funds by those who administer them; it was punished by death under Roman law but not under French law. ""Under the Ancien Régime how many ministers were condemned for peculatus and extortion! How many chambers of justice were instituted to make the financiers who pillaged the treasury disgorge their gains in complicity with the superintendents of finance!""
