Edgewear including some small tears to the bottom edge separating a bit at the bottom of the fold and rubbing to the exterior still a very good and complete copy. For voice and piano. Plate imprint "Robinson Crusoe 2." The back cover features a sample of "If I Knock the 'L' Out of Kelly 'It Would Still Be Kelly to Me'" along with an illustration. The front cover is pure nightmare fuel featuring Al Jolson in blackface alongside some bizarre goat creature that appears to have a bottle of liquor hanging around its neck. Includes the score for Aleksandr Alexandrov's music arranged for the piano by Marcelle Mercenier plus a smaller additional leaf with a French translation of Serguei Mikhalkov's lyrics mounted with tape at the rear. The edges are darkened and there is minor creasing with a tiny chip to the bottom edge. Very good. <p>Originally composed by Aleksandr Alexandrov as the Bolshevik party hymn Stalin chose this composition to replace "L'Internationale" as the Soviet national anthem in 1944 and commissioned Serguei Mikhalkov to write new lyrics to accompany the music. This score arranged for the piano by Marcelle Mercenier and a French translation of the lyrics was published for "Les Amities Belgo-Sovietiques" to honor the friendship between Belgium and the Soviet Union in the waning years of the war.<p>The classical pianist Marcelle Mercenier 1920-1996 was as comfortable in interpreting the traditional repertoire as she was with modern music. She took on works by Bartok Poulenc Boulez Webern Schenberg and Stockhausen with as much confidence as she did those of Chopin Beethoven Mozart and Schumann sometimes inventing new complicated fingering to give just the right feel to the musical phrases. She was one of the original members of the "Seminaire des Arts" group formed in Brussels in August of 1944 and in 1947 performed Boulez's first twelve-tone serial work the "Sonatine" for flute & piano. She loved variety enjoyed Jazz and sought to pass on her passion to the students she taught in later years.<p>RARE. Bruxelles: Dogilbert, 1944. paperback

Horizontal crease light old folds and modest additional wear and soil very good. The theme song of Michaux's Church of God dedicated here to Franklin D. Roosevelt who is pictured on the final page. Evangelist Michaux was known for his gospel singing prowess and was something of a television pioneer hosting a religious television show from the nation's capital in 1948-49. While Ezra Pound was incarcerated in St. Elizabeth's Hospital he included a reference to Lightfoot in his Canto 95. OCLC locates only two copies of a 1932 edition with no mention of the FDR content. Softcover bound in printed tan wraps titled in gilt on the front cover identified as "Partition Orchestre" in gilt along the top left and with the Comedie-Francaise's 1680 dated stamp on the front cover. "Partition Orchestre" is underlined in red graphite at the top of the front cover. The top and bottom edges to the soiled covers are chipped with tears to the top corner of the front cover and a piece out from the top corner of the rear. The front cover is nearly detached with tears along the spine and the rear cover is glued to the last blank leaf. Title plus 98 pages printed on lined music paper with most sheets stamped "Comedie Francaise 1680". The text is also printed in the appropriate parts of the score. The text block is shaken. There is occasional light soiling with signs of early worming to the top corner of the last 2 leaves. Good in a fair binding. <p>Titled: "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. Partition d'Orchestre. J.B. Lulli" on the title page.<p>This copy of the score was evidently prepared for a performance as there are numerous pencil notes throughout.<p>Laurent Leon 1835-1913 was the music director at the Comedie Francaise Paris from 1871 to 1913.<p>The parts of the score are as follows:<p>Overture.
