The lyrics to this song are taken from Henry Van Dyke's poem "America For Me" which is printed in its entirety on the final page. The back cover features a short sample of "Out Where the West Begins" by Arthur Chapman and Estelle Philleo. The author of the lyrics Henry Van Dyke was born in Germantown Pennsylvania and grew up to be a professor of English at Princeton University a lecturer at the University of Paris and the Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg appointed in 1913 by President Woodrow Wilson. SIGNED TWICE BY SUZANNE VEGA - sc A 23-1/2 inch high by 16-1/2 inch wide promotional broadsheet poster printed on both sides advertising "Suzanne Vega" her Debut Album and the single "Marlene on the Wall". The recto of the poster is a wonderful large rich black & white photograph of the singer/songwriter and the verso advertises the album and hit single on one side with quotes from American and British reviews framing a smaller photograph of Vega on a cobblestone street. The poster is inscribed and signed in black ink at the top left of the front "To Wass - / Suzanne Vega" and also signed on the verso with a correction and annotation in ink by Suzanne Vega. The poster is folded horizontally and vertically. There are some creases to the edges and remnants of small mounting squares at the four corners of the verso. Good. <p>The folk-singer and songwriter Suzanne Nadine Vega born 1959 released her first "Debut" album in 1985. It was well received by critics and reached platinum status in the UK. The song "Marlene on the Wall" was also released as a video which had success on MTV and VH1. Two songs "Luka" and "Tom's Diner" from her 1987 second album "Solitude Standing" made the Top 10 lists. Hardcover bound in brown cloth titled in gilt within a decorative frame in blind on the front cover with the title and decorations in gilt on the spine. The head & tail of the spine are chipped. There are stains to the bottom of the front & rear cover and the number "5" is written in black felt above the title. vi ii & 68 pages with textual illustrations and musical notations. The rear hinge is cracked and the spine pulling away from the text block. There is a tear to the front edges of of a few pages with a tear to the bottom of one page as well as chipping to the front edge of one leaf. Good.</p><p>First edition.</p> New York: G. Small scotch tape stain at upper left and upper right corner the former touching the "T" the latter touching the last "l" in "Burnell". Accompanied by a choice vintage 10" X 8" sepia-tone glossy photograph a scene from the 1944 Western "Swing in the Saddle" depicting him front and center with singer Jane Frazee the "Hoosier Hotshots" band behind them. Despite condition flaws an uncommon signature -- and a humdinger image. unknown
