B&W photographs One of the great musicals of the 1960s adapted from Federico Fellini's film "Nights of Cabiria." It was a triumph for choreographer Bob Fosse on the stage but a little less so in his 1969 screen adaptation which substituted Shirley MacLaine for Gwen Verdon. NOTE: Although there is no "first printing" or "first edition" statement in this copy of the book I believe it to be such and to therefore constitute an exception to the usual Random House practice for their published plays. The printed price $3.95 is present on the front jacket flap along with the printing code 10/66 at the bottom corner of the flap. In addition this was part of a collection in which nearly all the published plays were review copies with publisher's slips to document the fact; although there is no slip present in this copy I believe it to also be a review copy. 1856008048Fitchburg Massachusetts: Andrew Whitney 1856. First Edition. Sheet Music. Very Good. 6 pages including cover. Portrait illustration of Robinson on the front cover. Very light dampstain along the fore-edge margin. Charles L. Robinson was an abolitionist leader who settled in Lawrence and worked for the New England Emigrant Aid Society which transported Free-Staters from the northeast to settle in the Kansas Territory and successfully swung the balance of power from pro-slavery advocates. He was instrumental in organizing voter fraud and intimidating pro-slavery voters which resulted in the Topeka Convention of 1856 electing Free-Staters into all important governing positions with himself as governor and creating a free-state constitution. The Topeka Convention was roundly criticized and eventually rejected by Congress and within three months President Franklin Pierce proclaimed the Topeka Government to be revolutionary and ordered the arrest of its leaders including Robinson. This polka was composed by one of Robinson's long-time friends from Fitchburg Massachusetts and published in the short time between his 'election' as governor and subsequent arrest as a revolutionary. At time of listing OCLC locates one copy of this title. None are for sale in the trade and the Rare Book Hub shows no auction records. Andrew Whitney books

Since you show interest in my projects and my return to the United States I can tell you that I am having talks about touring your big country during the winter of 48-49 where I have dear and faithful friendships. Occasional light foxing and soiling throughout but generally clean. Nineteenth-century music publishers in Naples have not been as rigorously studied and documented as those in Milan despite the city's importance in the musical history of Italy. The largest and most important publishing firm was Girard later Stabilimento Musicale Partenopeo then Teodoro Cottrau. Founded by Giuseppe Girard in 1809 succeeded by his son Bernardo in 1826 the company did exceptionally well primarily due to their partnership with Gugliemo Cottrau. Girard had an exclusive contract with the three largest theatres in Naples giving them rights to the works premiered there. For Neapolitan opera during this time therefore the editions of Girard almost certainly predate those of Lucca or Ricordi and were the only editions for many lesser-known composers. The present collection also includes two scores published by Fabbricatore another important publisher in Naples that often worked in partnership with Ricordi. unknown books
