Annie was the wife of Samuel Milton Call 1847-1924 and later Reverend Henry Clay Sprinkle 1868-1955. Bound volume containing 28 music scores for piano. Illustrated title-pages done with ornamentation or printed in lithography 9 of which 4 are color. Volume is worn. Good. Unique collection of 28 American music scores for piano dating from 1848-71 including specimens printed in New York Boston Chicago Cincinnati St. Louis Milwaukee Cleveland Nashville and Louisville. This group features nine lithographs by such firms as Ehrgott. Forbriger & Co. Lithographers Cincinnati 4; Ehrgott & Krebs Lithographers ; Color lithography by Sarony & Co. New York; Lithographed title by E.H. Pigott Forbriger & Co. Cincinnati. This collection was bound together for Annie Van Eaton whose name is featured on the cover. Her music teacher Lorenz Kussner of Terre Haute Indiana clearly had experience with the pieces selected. PROVENANCE: Lorenz Kussner Pianos & Music Terre Haute Indiana. Kussner was a dealer in musical merchandise born in Hasse-Darmstadt Germany in 1836. In 1852 he immigrated to the Unites States settling in New York briefly before relocating to Cincinnati. While in Dayton Ohio he apprenticed to a piano manufacturer. After four years he moved again to Crawfordsville Indiana and the Greencastle IN teaching music. In 1864 he arrived in Terre Haute and opened his retail music store. After a year the building burned down. In August 1857 he married Emilie Weinhardt also a native of Germany. They had a daughter Amalia who became a well-known miniaturist artist. See: Hiram Williams Beckwith History of Vigo and Parke Counties Together with Historic Notes on the Wabash Valley . . . The first important soloist to emerge in jazz Armstrong is recognized as the most influential musician in the genre's history. Nicknamed "Satchmo" "Pops" and later "Ambassador Satch" he was a trumpeter bandleader singer soloist film star and comedian. Includes a checklist from the exhibition at MOMA from October 4 to December 5 1965. An exhibition featuring these two brothers; Francois the sculptor and accounstical genius alongside Bernard a professional sound engineer. Between them they created numerous musical instruments for a new modern-age concept of electronic music. Included with this gatefold is a 10" 33 1/3 LP recording of music composed for the Baschet instruments demonstrating their sound qualities. Catalog design by Mary Margaret Ahern. Gatefold in clean very good condition. The LP is fairly dusty and worn. We have not played it but it looks to be in fair to good overall condition. Quite scarce catalog. Six copies noted in O.C.L.C. A collection of three decorative watercolors of musical notation circa 1870's each depicting several staves of music in pen & ink within decorative border of various vignettes and motifs including flowers landscape vistas figures birds architectural details etc. each intricately cut out in outline mounted on blue paper. The three meticulously copied pieces of music appear to be short Viennese waltzes for piano. Three charming pieces evoking the spirit of late-nineteenth-century Vienna. Some light wear to the blue mounts but overall in very fine condition. Each approx. 11 x 8 inches 27.5 x 20.5 cm mounted to 14.25 x 10.75 inches 36.3 x 27.3 cm.<br style=""> unknown books

Included with record is 7" by 7" piece of cardboard with hand-illustrated collaged art drawn by fountain pen with handwritten notes and information to verso including a long inscription. Cardboard about very good as well; lightly toned and scuffed. <br/><br/>Original and likely unique acedate disc of four folk songs performed on guitar by one Joachim Keiser. The songs all originally performed by Woody Guthrie are here presented as a "little present" to a "Mrs. Braley." In halting English he notes to Bialey: "please don't be afraid about the cover" which depicts a hand holding a smoking revolver and notes that the recordings "sounded better on the tape." His performances however are not unaccomplished and are typical for the period while the cover is a striking word of folk art. Its noirish gloom is surprisingly modern: Mingering Mike meets Raymond Pettibon. unknown books

Anthony and includes a wide range of historical characters among them Daniel Webster Anthony Comstock Ulysses S. Grant and Lillian Russell. This is No. 47 of 55 copies of which only 50 were for sale which were "printed on special paper cloth bound and numbered . and are signed on the limitation page by Virgil Thomson." The regular trade edition was 1000 copies in wrappers. Included but transferred from another copy of the book are the three original portrait photographs by Carl Van Vechten which were originally issued with each of the numbered copies. Each photograph is approx. 5x7 inches and is mounted on a 9x12 piece of thin textured card stock; each has a printed label on the verso bearing Van Vechten's original signature. The three photographs contained in their original envelope are: Gertrude Stein; Virgil Thomson; and Dorothy Dow as Susan B. Anthony and William Horne as Jo the Loiterer as they appeared in the original production. NOTE that the original photo of Stein in profile is different from the shot of Stein in front of an American flag that's reproduced as part of a dual frontispiece in the book itself; the two portraits of Thomson are identical. "Candide" premiered at the Broadway Theatre on March 10 1974 playing for 740 performances closing on January 4 1976. Annotation in holograph marker of copy number "#13" on title page and several annotations in holograph pencil throughout highlighting dialogue and songs.<br/><br/>The second Broadway production of the comic operetta of Voltaire's 1759 novella. First performed in 1956 with a libretto by Lillian Hellman but beginning with this 1974 revival with a book by Hugh Wheeler which is more faithful to the novel. This version running at 105 minutes omitted over half of the musical numbers from the original and was known as the "Chelsea version." Opening in 1973 at stage director Robert Kalfin's Chelsea Theatre Center in the Brooklyn Academy of Music before moving to the Broadway Theatre in 1974 to enthusiastic notices and a two year run.<br/><br/>Also of note for this version was the staging. The Broadway Theatre itself was rebuilt for the production with walkways and platforms constructed around the auditorium with the audience seated on wooden benches in the middle of the action and invited to eat peanuts during the show adding to a circus-like atmosphere.<br/><br/>Winner of five 1974 Tony Awards including Best Book of a Musical and Best Direction of a Musical nominated for Best Actor in a Musical Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Best Featured Actress in a Musical.<br/><br/>Red Studio Duplicating Service vinyl titled wrappers. 1947641Cambridge MA: The Riverside Press 1947. First edition of this classic retelling of Robin Hood. Quarto original cloth illustrated. Presentation inscribed by Virginia Lee Burton "Greetings to the 'Caner' from Virginia Lee Burton." Near fine in the original dust jacket with some wear and tear. Anne Malcolmson Grace Castagnetta and Caldecott medalist Virginia Lee Burton joined forces in 1947 to produce the definitive edition of The Song of Robin Hood. Their triumphant achievement was one of the most distinctive presentations of the legend ever published and it received a Caldecott Honor Medal in 1948. Through meticulous research and unfailing perseverance Anne Malcolmson rediscovered fifteen of the original ballads of Robin Hood; Grace Castagnetta adapted them to modern musical notation. Virginia Lee Burton spent three years on drawings to accompany the songs ultimately producing a work of art filled with exquisite detail and worthy of comparison to the greatest illuminated manuscripts of the medieval era. Presentation copy inscribed by the lyricist Sheldon Harnick on the front panel "For Peter: Sheldon Harnick 12/16/15." In near fine condition. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters or Tevye the Dairyman and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye the father of five daughters and his attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon the family's lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters who wish to marry for love - each one's choice of a husband moves further away from the customs of their Jewish faith and heritage - and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village. The original Broadway production of the show which opened in 1964 had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3000 performances. Fiddler held the record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years until Grease surpassed its run. It remains the seventeenth longest-running show in Broadway history. The production was extraordinarily profitable and highly acclaimed. It won nine Tony Awards including best musical score book direction and choreography. It spawned five Broadway revivals and a highly successful 1971 film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring international popularity.
