To the cellist and conductor Achille Kerrion (1868-1939) with thanks, regards and congratulations to him and the whole orchestra, as well as praise for his sister, the singer Stéphanie Kerrion: "Votre lettre me trouve à Paris, que je travers & de suite, je vous exprime ma parfaite gratitude & toutes mes chaleureuses amitiés! Votre soeur est une très remarquable artiste que [!] c'est avec reconnaissance que je la remercie! à tous les musiciens de l'orchestre mes plus amicables félicitations [...]" (Paris, 15 Oct. 1896). - To Antonin Périvier (1847-1924), director of the literary periodical "Gil Blas", suggesting his friend, Ernest Laroche from Bordeaux, for a position at the journal: "Cher grand ami, plus d'une sollicitation vous parviendra au sujet de votre nouveau journal! Passez à un homme très précieux: mon ami Ernest Laroche, de Bordeaux; il peut remplir un poste absolument utile et devenir un collaborateur tout à fait nécessaire [...]" (Paris, 6 Nov. 1902). - To a friend about writing to the influential music journal "Le Ménestrel", and with congratulations for his performance in his opera "Thaïs", which premiered in 1894: "Cher ami merci! J'écris au Ménestrel, allez y je vous en prie demain lundi. Très à vous & félicitations à votre diction [?] de Thais [...]" (Égreville, 22 Aug., no year). - To a friend with congratulations on his success, hoping it will last for a long time: "Je suis enchanté de vous savoir satisfait et je n'ai que à vous souhaiter la continuation de vos succès! [...]" (Paris, January 1890). - Hoping that a reunion will not take place as long as he is out of town: "Pourra que la réunion n'ait pas lieu pendant que je serai absent & loin! [...]" (no place, 11 Aug. 1900). - Setting the date and time for a visit: "Je vous attendrai chez moi (46 rue du Général Foy) le Lundi 30 avril à 9h ¼ précise du matin [...]" ([Paris], 21 April, no year). - The visiting cards send regards and congratulations, and express his disappointment at an answer from Kerrion. - All but 2 letters with strips of paper mounted on verso.

Amicable correspondence with Renée Françoise Adélaïde Lemonnier (1767-1833), wife of the mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange (1736-1813), at the Palais National des Sciences et des Arts in Paris. - Missing her greatly, not even feeling it in her power to complain about Lemonnier's new friend: "Oh! je vous ensure mon amie [...] je m'ennui fort de votre absence. Je n'ai seulemen[t] pas les Ressource d'aller (comme à Paris) voir par ma fenestre, si je puis vous appercevoir à la Votre. Je n'ai pas même les Ressources de me mettre de mauvaise humeur contre cette figure à Callot, de Madame M. qui a pris ma place auprès de vous, pour! pour vous aimer moins que je ne vous aimes, assurément [...]" (12 Prairial [1 June]). - In great admiration for Napoleon, crediting him with having an impact on nature as well as politics: "Cet incroyable génie de Bonnaparté s'occupe du Mayence d'y Remédier. Cette Confusion semble s'étendre sur la Nature. Les saison paraissent aussi changées, aussy dérangées que la politique [...] que nous sommes heureux au milieux d'un tel caho, d'avoir un Bonnaparte [...] celuy la est mon dieu [...]" (4 Messidor [23 June]). - About her poor health, having to spend a month in bed, reminding her to be less trusting, alluding to her solitude, and asking for news about mutual friends: "Moy, je vie dans ma maison des champs je ne dirais pas sans chagrins! n'y souris car, J'ay trop d'objets de peines, de Regrêts pour que cela puisse Estre, mais! je crois que je suis un peu plus insousciante sur les vicissitudes de cette miserable vie. Dites moy le que vous faites de vos amis [...]" (5 Complémentaire [22 September]). - Wondering whether she attended a feast given by Napoleon: "Avez vous été témoin [...] de la belle fêtte des honneurs que le brave, le sensible, le spirituel Bouonaparté a fait rendre au temple de Mars en le Grand Turenne: l'on dit que cela estoit superbe [...]" (28 Vendémiaire [20 October]). - Very well preserved.

Altogether 8 pp. All to Charles de Beauregard, editor of "La Gazette de France". - In an undated letter, Meyerbeer intends to attend an upcoming concert of Franz Liszt with Beauregard's niece: "Veuillez agréer de nouveau mes remerciements pour votre charmante soirée de mardi, ainsi que mes félicitations sur le beau succès qu'a obtenu votre aimable nièce, & qui nous préjuge un talent très remarquable pour l'avenir en elle. J'ai eu l'honneur de vous demander ce soir la, s'il vous serait agréable d'assister avec Mademoiselle votre nièce au concert que donne M. Lisczt demain (Dimanche) [...]". - The letter from 14 April 1849 concerns Meyerbeer's grand opera "Le prophète", whose French-language libretto was written by Eugène Scribe and Émile Deschamps. He promises Beauregard to send him a copy as soon as printing is finished: "Je suis on ne peut plus heureux d'apprendre que je serai désormais comme par le passé jugé par Vous mon bon et bienveillant ami. Je ne puis Vous assurer si le libretto du Prophète sera imprimé dès demains, mais je vous donne ma parole qu'aussitôt que mon éditeur aura des exemplaires je m'empresserai d'avoir l'honneur de Vous en adresser un [...]". - Another letter relates to an invitation to the opera singer Maria di Candia (1810-83): "J'ai remis de suite à Monsieur de Candia votre invitation des que je l'avoir reçue. Il me dirait alors qu'il ne savait s'il était libre le jour que vous indiquiez, mais qu'il ne manquerait pas de donc adresser sa réponse par écrit [...]". - All six letters somewhat brownstained.

Oblong folio (265 x 345 mm). 15, (1) pp., including engraved title designed around Princess Augusta royal cypher. Contemporary full red panelled morocco. The boards each with a border made up of roll tools of flowers and etc. in gilt and blind, the corners with onlaid black morocco squares of harps enclosing a leaf and star roundel; the whole enclosing around central "gothic" window design silk; end leaves (edges perished) gilt edges. Neat ink royal cypher stamp of Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel, Duchess of Cambridge on corner of title-page. A finely bound presentation copy from the composer to the dedicatee. Anton Wallerstein (1813-92) was a virtuoso violinist and composer. Born in Dresden to a family of Jewish merchants, he first received violin lessons at an early age and began to play at local inns and private gatherings before making a concert debut at fourteen in 1827, establishing his career as a musician. Though still a teenager, he began a concert tour through Germany and at sixteen attained the post of violinist to the Dresden Court Ensemble. In 1832 he held a similar position in Hanover and it was through this employment that he was to dedicate his Opus 8 to his patron the Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel, Duchess of Cambridge (1797-1889). - The work contains six settings to German poets: 1) Goethe's "Romanze aus Erwin und Elmire Romanze"; 2) Antoine-Francois-Claude Ferrand's "Der Rosenstrauch"; 3) Emil Reiniger's "Sehnsucht"; 4) August Schumacher's "Der Schiffer"; 5) Franz von Gaudy's "Das Trauerhaus"; 6) Julius Moser's "Der Mond und Sie!" (uncredited). Until 1837, when they moved to London, Adolphus Duke of Cambridge and his wife Augusta lived in Hanover, where the Duke was Governor General. Augusta was very keen on music and the theatre, so this special copy of Wallerstein's composition probably travelled to London with them. The same year Anton Wallerstein also seems to have lost his post at Hanover, anti-Semitic issues having been indicated as the reason, but in general he had a fairly good career as a travelling violin virtuoso in Germany and Britain, publishing more commercial, if probably less cultured, polkas and waltzes. OCLC locates one copy at the British Library.

V. 1909). - 5 Briefe an Bouillard über eine Angelegenheit betreffend sein Konto bei der Bank Lehideux sowie seinen Vertrag mit dem Verlag "Office Musical", etwa über die eingelangte Summe von 1775 Francs: "J'ai l'honneur de vous accuser reception de la somme de mille-sept-cent-soixante-quinze francs montant de la traité [...] acceptée par l''office musical' et exemptée par la maison Lebideux [...]" (Sylva Hotel, Paris, 28. IV. 1912). - Mit dem Plan, einen Brief an die Bank zu richten, und unzufrieden darüber, dass sein Dossier sich derzeit bei derselben befindet: "Je ferai ce que vous me dites. Dois-je adresser ma lettre directement à M. M. Lehideux ou vous la remettre? Il y a un petit inconvinient c'est que mon dossier est entre les mains de ceux qui s'occupent de l'affaire [...]" (Paris, 16. VII. 1912). - Über den Abschluss eines neuen Vertrages, den er ihm am Samstag zukommen lässt, und mit Dank für seine Unterstützung: "C'est entendu pour le renouvellement de la traité. Partant en voyage jusqu'à Vendredi je vous la ferai parvenir de facon que vous l'ayez Samedi [...] J'ai fait ajouter 25 Francs pour les frais de renouvellement. [...] Was mich betrifft, so kann ich Dir nur sagen, daß ich mich sehr wohl fühle, denn vor Allem habe ich hier eine sehr schöne Stellung und hält Dir. Conried [?] sehr viel auf mich. Jedenfalls ist das Irving-Place-Theater ein vornehmes Kunstinstitut, was man vom Josefstädter Theater nicht behaupten kann!! Jetzt erst fühle ich so recht den Unterschied und bin glücklich aus diesem Vaudeville-Theater fort zu sein [...]" (Br. v. 13.
