Stc. ed Adams, di questa celebre e preziosa opera per le notizie che ci dà e i passi che cita di autori poco noti o perduti. L' autore Aulo Gellio (130-175 A.C.) raccolse un gran numero di informazioni per uso proprio e dei suoi figli in forma volutamente disorganica toccando gli argomenti più disparati: Diritto, geometria, astronomia, medicina, storia, geografia, scienze naturali, logioca, meteorologia ecc.
