È il venerabile Léon Dupont (1797-1876), "il sant'uomo di Tours", come era chiamato in tutta la Francia e fin oltre oceano. L'abate Janvier, suo grande amico e prosecutore della sua opera, ha scritto questo libro, che ha avuto moltissime ristampe, e in esso ci racconta Dupont, gli aneddoti che lo riguardano e che solo chi era in confidenza con lui può conoscere. Ma questo testo non è unicamente una biografia, è anche il manuale di preghiere utilizzato dalla Confraternita del Volto Santo fondata da Léon Dupont e tuttora esistente. Molte delle preghiere presenti sono state composte da colui che resterà sempre nella storia come "il sant'uomo di Tours".
