brossura L'intento di questa ricerca è di prendere "sul serio", forse anche "sul serissimo" e di dimostrarlo, l'itinerario filosofico e teologico di Edith Stein, ponendo in parallelo le voci di chi l'ha conosciuta e ha vissuto un tratto d'esistenza, condividendolo, con lei. L'angolo prospettico presenta un punto di condensazione, il Blickwendung della notte di Bergzabern, il punto di discrimine creatosi con la lettura della Vita di Teresa di Gesù che mutò la vita intellettuale ed esistenziale della giovane fenomenologa e la fece divenire "ponte" nel confronto con la scolastica nell'esperienza della Verità. "Ponte" che tante voci hanno attraversato con lei, nei diversi momenti cronologici della storia, proprio perché vivendo i decenni oscuri dell'Europa ed essendosene lasciata attraversare, ha reso se stessa "ponte incarnato", che ognuno/a può percorrere e attraversare, per giungere alla conoscenza di sé ed aprirsi al mistero dell'irruzione di Dio. Edith Stein, scoperta la sua vocazione di "ponte" intellettuale fra fenomenologia e scolastica, ritenuta dal suo contemporaneo prof. Dyroff dell'Università di Bonn, "la più grande donna del cielo dei filosofi tedeschi", diviene anche "ponte" fra Israele e la Chiesa cattolica, nell'efferata tragedia della Shoah scagliata sull'Europa e sul mondo dall'ideologia nazista e perpetrata dalla macchina burocratica della "banalità del male" nazista.
br. "La grande figlia d'Israele, della Chiesa, del Carmelo". Con queste parole, pronunciate il primo ottobre del 1999, Giovanni Paolo II sintetizzava la luminosa figura di Edith Stein, mentre la annoverava tra le patrone d'Europa, accanto a Brigida e a Caterina da Siena. Della santa martire carmelitana Francesco Salvarani ha ripercorso con cura e partecipazione la vicenda biografica mettendo in evidenza l'intensa relazione tra produzione filosofica ed esperienza di vita. Emerge il profilo di una donna forte, moderna e coraggiosa, ma, nello stesso tempo, ricchissima di umanità. Restano così impresse nella memoria le pagine che ci restituiscono gli snodi del suo percorso: la puntigliosità degli anni dell'infanzia, la dedizione dell'esperienza come crocerossina, il tormento alla ricerca della verità, gli anni votati alla filosofia, la gioia purissima della conversione e dell'entrata al Carmelo, il dramma della prigionia e il sacrificio ad Auschwitz.
