An early Junk bond with an attractive bank-note engraving of the Hudson Highlands - a fictitious Garrison's Landing looking west across the Hudson towards the plains of West Point; with an eagle on the verso. Issued at 4 percent dated 13 Oct. 1892. It is signed by Chauncey Depew 1834 - 1928 whose ancestors settled in 1685 at the present location of Peekskill NY. Among many other positions Depew was president of the New York Central Railroad System and president of the West Shore Railroad Company. This line extended from Weehawken NJ north along the west shore of the Hudson River to Albany NY and then west to Buffalo; it is no longer a passenger line & now serves as CSX Transportation's main freight route from the west to the New York City area. Ce rarissime cinquième et dernier volume de texte, qui comporte 2 parties, renferme le rapport fait à l'Académie des sciences le 4 février 1833 sur les collections d'histoire naturelle recueillies pendant le voyage de la corvette La Favorite…, les Recherches sur les marsupiaux par Fortuné Eydoux et Laurent, la 2e partie Zoologie par Fortuné Eydoux et Paul Gervais, le supplément sur les Lépidoptères nouveaux par Feisthamel.

The voyage touched on the Canary Islands, Rio de Janeiro, Ile de France & Bourbon, Timor, Indonesia, the Marianas & Caroline Islands, Hawaii (13 chapters), Australia (8 chapters), and the Malouines. The plates, taken from drawings by Arago on the voyage, are largely portraits of aborigines encountered around the world, and there is extensive reference to the comparative customs of the peoples. Despite the fact that six editions are recorded in Ferguson, this one is not.(although a four-volume version of the same year is Ferguson 2906). First edition thus of this early stereoview image of fisherman setting in his boat with the Columbia River sweeping alongside and in the background. The Continent Stereoscopic Company was noted for issuing pirated and copy negatives of stereoviews with a view original images mixed in from 1870-1890. The “borrowed†images from C.R. Savage F.
