Original privately printed 143 page shooting script for the Robin Williams film Jakob the Liar written by Peter Kassovitz Didier Decoin and Ron Hutchison based on the novel by Jurek Becker. Signed and inscribed by Robin Williams and Marsha Williams on the title page to Claire Simpson the filmâ€™s editor. Inscribed: â€œClaire Your humanity is in every frame Mazeltov! Robin Williams Robin Williamsâ€ and â€œDear dear Claire where to begin Thank you.Thank you.For your talent your spirit the friendship etc etc etc. Love Marshaâ€. This copy was owned by the filmâ€™s editor Claire Simpson and has â€œClaire Simpsonâ€ stamped into the leather at the lower right corner of the front board. With a black & white photo of Robin Williams in character as Jakob. Beautifully bound in full brown leather with the title stamped to the front board and the spine and with raised bands at the spine all edges gilt 8 5/8 inches by 11 1/8 inches. Decorative endpapers. Fine. Unbeknownst to the many admirers of Robin Williams was that he was a lover of books. Over the years Williams had his own private press specially printing on fine papers and handsomely binding editions of the screenplays of some of the films he appeared in. They were all printed in very small quantities. Williams would sign them and then they would be sent to members of the cast and crew of the productions. As a unique item this is a special opportunity to honor and celebrate Williamsâ€™s love of his craft his love of books and his appreciation of the people who helped to bring his films to life. Jakob the Liar was produced by Marsha Garces Williams directed by Peter Kassovitz starring Robin Williams in the title role with Hanna Taylor Gordon Bob Balaban Alan Arkin Michael Jeter and Liev Schreiber. The film tells the story of how during WWII an ordinary inhabitant of a ghetto Williams fakes news about Allied offensives to inspire hope for other victims of the Nazi regime. This production of Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo opened March 31 2011 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and ran for an impressive 108 performances closing July 3 2011. The play was directed by Moises Kaufman starring Robin Williams Glenn Davis Brad Fleischer Hrach Titizian Sheila Vand Necar Zadegan and Arian Moayed telling the tale of the lives of two American Marines and an Iraqi translator whose lives are forever changed by an encounter with a quick-witted tiger Williams who haunts the streets of war-torn Baghdad attempting to find meaning forgiveness and redemption amidst the cityâ€™s ruins. Jones from a total edition of 250 quarto size 80 pp. signed by Robin Skelton Sara Philpott and Peter R. Jones with extra material about the special binding. This volume one of ten with a special binding by Peter R. Jones; Peter received his Licentiate of Designer Bookbinders in 1991 Fellow in 1995 and served as President from 2005-2007. He has exhibited widely and his work is represented in collections both private and institutional in the UK Europe and the USA. Of his work Peter says "My work is driven by structure and materials. There is a great sense of achievement to be gained from seeing the product of one's own labour." n. b. above from the web site of Peter Jones. The work is by Robin Skelton 1925-1997 an English writer editor anthologist and Professor of English. The twenty-four poems in "Lens of Crystal" were written both as a tribute to his own Celtic ancestry and as a means of recognition for the English speaking world. The poems are taken from medieval Welsh texts from the sixth to the fourteenth-centuries reproduced with humble mastery and taking few liberties. Sara Philpott is a contemporary Welsh painter and printmaker. She responded to these poems of her homeland with lino images evoking scenes and shapes from nature especially the Welsh landscape. ___DESCRIPTION: Quarter dark-blue morocco boards covered in a heavy sculptural material fore- and tail-edges uncut black endpapers thirty-seven images etched and cut on linoleum; Bembo and Nicolas Cochin type hand and computer set printed on paper from a special making of Zerkall mould-made quarto size 11" by 8" unpaginated with 80 pp. limited edition number VIII of X copies in a special binding out of a total edition of 250 signed by the author artist and binder at the colophon. Housed in publisher's slipcase covered in matching dark-blue/black paper. With extra material regarding the special binding by Peter R. Jones four sheets printed on one side in black with two tipped-in colour photographs and one sheet of grey paper folded once to make four pages with two tipped-in colour photographs. ___CONDITION: A fine copy internally bright and free of prior owner markings corners straight hinges tight covers clean; slipcase is also fine with no flaws or rubbing; clean crisp as new.
