PROVENANCE: Theodore Evelyn Reece Phillips 1868-1942 was an English Astronomer and Vicar of Headley. In 1883 he was appointed Plumian Professor of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. He studied tidal forces involving the Sun Moon and Earth and formulated the fission theory of Moon formation. In 1918 he was awarded the Jackson-Gwilt Medal by the Royal Astronomical Society.
